We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Cross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I embrace taking risks! Whether in business or in life, I believe great risk comes with great reward and there is everything to gain in taking the leap forward. When I am looking at a new project, taking the first step is daunting but I mitigate my ‘fear’ by preparing and taking calculated risks. When I’m confident about my numbers, the rest is for the taking.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been interested in architecture, design and real estate. In 2017, I had an opportunity to pivot in my career and learn more about the real estate business. After working with one of the best real estate investors/flippers in Miami Beach, I took the leap to acquire, renovate and stabilize my first project in North Beach. I am bullish on North Beach and excited to see both City plans and mixed-use developments come to the area. Today, I have a small, but amazing team that is crucial to getting the construction done and stabilizing the property. I love the dynamic, creative nature of real estate and that every day is different.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many great places in this city! On a weekend for lunch, I love to spend the afternoon with friends at Mandolin, their courtyard feels like home and it is beautiful to sit with a group of friends and enjoy the afternoon there. If not there, I’m at the beach where I’ll stay pretty much until it’s dark out. One of my favorite beaches in Miami is North Beach because when you look back from the water, you see lush, native landscape and it feels like you’re on a remote island somewhere. I love Gemy’s in North Beach for coffee, the owners are the sweetest couple from Italy and they make an incredible Espresso. For drinks and going out, some of my favorites are Casa Florida in Little Havana, The Corner in downtown and Lagniappe in Wynwood. Last but not least, Coconut Grove is pretty much my favorite neighborhood in Miami. Whether walking the tree-lined streets, the bay, the parks, there’s an outdoor lifestyle like no other. If you’re lucky you’ll share the sidewalk with some peacocks too!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many inspiring individuals I look up to everyday. First and foremost my family; my parents, brother, cousin, aunt, grandparents, sister-in-law – I am so lucky to be surrounded by incredible business mentors but also a loving and supportive family. They are the best example.
