Meet Tatiana Scharr

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Scharr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I wanted to create the kind of practice I wish existed when I was younger—a space where people could talk openly about trauma, sex, identity, and anxiety without shame or judgment. Starting my own business gave me the freedom to practice on my terms, ethically and holistically. I didn’t want to be confined to rigid models or burnt out in agencies that often push quantity over quality. I needed the space to be creative, to integrate sound healing and somatic work, and to work with clients in ways that actually help them heal not just survive.
New Moon Therapy was born from a desire to do the work deeply, intentionally, and authentically. I knew I wanted to serve my community in a way that honored both clinical excellence and cultural sensitivity. Starting my own business was a risk but it was the only path that felt aligned.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, New Moon Therapy, is rooted in the belief that healing happens when people feel seen, safe, and supported especially when it comes to trauma, sexuality, and identity. I work with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, sexual dysfunction, trauma, and relational wounds. What sets my work apart is that I don’t just focus on symptom reduction I help people reclaim their voice, their body, and their relationships.
I’m not afraid to talk about the things that make people uncomfortable. Whether we’re exploring sexual pain, dissociation, anxiety, or shame I approach it with honesty, compassion, and zero judgment. I’m also trained in sound healing and somatic practices, which I integrate into the work when appropriate, because healing is not just cognitive it’s felt in the body.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built a practice that reflects both who I am as a clinician and as a human being. It’s culturally informed, deeply ethical, and always client-centered. I bring my full self into this work veteran, Latina, mother, Ph.D., licensed clinical social worker, sex therapist. I don’t try to fit into a box. Neither do my clients.
Getting here hasn’t been easy. Like many therapists, I started out working in agency settings where I was overworked and underpaid. I had to learn quickly how to advocate for myself, how to say no, and how to run a business something grad school doesn’t really teach you. I had to get comfortable taking risks: investing in office space, building a brand, setting fees, and trusting that the clients would come. There were slow months and moments of imposter syndrome. But I kept going because the work is worth it.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that clarity comes from action. You don’t need to have it all figured out you just need to take the next step. Trust your training, trust your values, and keep showing up.
At the heart of New Moon Therapy is the belief that healing isn’t about becoming someone new it’s about returning to who you’ve always been, before the world told you otherwise. That’s the story I hope to tell through my work every single day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, we’d definitely slow down, breathe deep, eat well, and enjoy the little things that make South Florida special. I’d want to give them a mix of relaxation, adventure, and connection to nature, to culture, and to themselves. Here’s what our week would look like:
Day 1: Welcome with Soul Food & Sunshine
We’d start the trip with brunch at Buddies in Cooper City one of my all-time favorite spots. The food is incredible, but the energy is even better. It feels like that one friend’s house who’s got great taste and makes you feel completely at home. After we’re full and happy, we’d take a grounding walk on Hollywood Beach’s boardwalk, just soaking in the ocean, grabbing a coconut water, and letting the breeze reset our nervous systems.
Day 2: Botanical Beauty & Farmers Market Magic
We’d head to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to connect with nature in that lush, tropical way that only Miami can offer. If it’s a Saturday, we’d wake up early for the Key Biscayne Farmers Market nothing beats fresh fruit, cafecito, and local energy. A slow afternoon might include some journaling or just lounging in nature.
Day 3: Movement + Piercings (because why not)
We’d book a class at Casa D Hot Yoga in Cooper City my personal sanctuary. It’s the kind of class that leaves you not only sweaty, but deeply reconnected to your body and breath. Afterward, we’d make our way down to Iri Tattoo and Piercing in Wynwood—a place that’s become a home away from home for me. Whether it’s a new piercing or just hanging with the artists, it always feels like you’re entering a space where self-expression is celebrated.
Day 4: Chill & Explore
A perfect midweek reset might be a visit to Ichimura Miami Japan Garden a peaceful escape hidden in the city where you can just be. We’d grab takeout or try a new ramen spot on the way back.
Day 5: Culture, Color & Creativity
Wynwood is a must, not just for the tattoo stop. We’d walk the art walls, pop into galleries, grab an arepa or poke bowl, and maybe finish with a drink somewhere low-key. Miami’s art scene has this mix of grit and glam that always sparks inspiration.
Day 6: Weekend Vibes & Local Flavor
Saturday or Sunday would absolutely include a trip to the Yellow-Green Market it’s such a vibrant, eclectic spot. You can spend hours wandering through vendors, sampling foods, and discovering treasures. From handmade soaps to empanadas to fresh juices it’s sensory heaven.
Day 7: Foodie Finale at Shoma Bazaar
To wrap up the week, we’d head to Shoma Bazaar in Doral. It’s stylish, upbeat, and full of incredible food stalls perfect for trying a little bit of everything. We’d raise a glass, toast to friendship, healing, and good memories, and maybe even plan the next trip.
For me, it’s all about mixing the therapeutic with the playful moments where you feel nourished, inspired, and reconnected. That’s the kind of week I’d want to share.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely!!!! No one does this alone. I’ve had the privilege of being surrounded by people and organizations who have genuinely shaped my path.
First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the unwavering support of my spouse and family. Their constant love and encouragement have been foundational. They didn’t just cheer me on they created space for me to grow, to study, to train, and to become the therapist I am today. Their belief in me made it possible to complete both my academic and clinical training.
I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Kristi House in Miami, a remarkable Child Advocacy center that welcomed me during my academic internship and continued to support me even after graduation. My time there was transformative. It’s where I truly saw the power of human connection and therapeutic alliance in action. The work was raw, meaningful, and deeply rewarding and it affirmed for me just how critical safe, compassionate spaces are in the healing process.
I carry those lessons and that sense of community into every session I hold today.
