Meet Truce Nguyen | Salon Owner/Master Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Truce Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Truce, how do you think about risk?
I think of risk as a necessary part of growth and self-development. Without it, life can become stagnant. Some of the most defining moments in my life have come from taking chances, even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed.
In 2012, I took a leap and left my hometown of Philadelphia to move to Miami without knowing anyone. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to rebuild my life from the ground up, both personally and professionally. That experience taught me resilience and gave me confidence in my ability to adapt and create opportunities for myself.
More recently, in 2024, I took another major risk by opening my own hair studio. After years of working for others, I realized I wanted more control over my time, my work, and the environment I create for my clients. Choosing to bet on myself was both exciting and intimidating, but it’s been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made.
Looking back, I sometimes wish I had taken that step sooner, but I also believe everything unfolds when it’s meant to. Those two decisions changed the direction of my life in the best way, and they’ve strengthened the trust I have in myself.
To me, risk isn’t about being fearless. It’s about being willing to move forward even when things feel uncertain.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is the balance I bring between professionalism and genuine kindness. I create an experience where clients feel both taken care of and respected. I’m warm and approachable, but also clear, structured, and assertive when needed. That balance has allowed me to build strong, lasting relationships with my clients while maintaining a high standard for my work and my business.
I take a lot of pride in my space, my craft, and the environment I’ve created. Every detail matters to me. From the quality of the service to how a client feels when they walk in and when they leave. It’s not just about hair, it’s about the overall experience.
My journey hasn’t been easy. Entrepreneurship, for me, has been a constant lesson in self-growth. It forces you to confront your weaknesses and refine not just your business, but yourself. One of my biggest lessons has been learning boundaries. Understanding that in order to sustain my business and my energy, I had to be intentional about how I operate and environments I align myself with.
I’ve learned the importance of having a clear vision for how I want my business to look and feel, and then aligning my systems and processes to support that. Paying attention to what drains me versus what fulfills me has been key in creating something sustainable.
What I want people to know about my brand is that it’s rooted in quality and intention. I’m committed to providing a high level experience in a space that feels welcoming, safe, and elevated. Every client who sits in my chair is getting my full attention, care, and expertise. That’s something I never compromise on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Miami for a week, I’d want them to experience a mix of culture, food, vibes, and relaxation. While still leaving room to just soak up the city’s energy. Here’s how I’d plan it:
Day 1 – Art & Immersive Experiences:
Start with the Pérez Art Museum Miami to take in modern and contemporary art, then head to Superblue Miami for an interactive, immersive art experience. Both are perfect for photo ops and getting inspired. Finish the day exploring Wynwood Walls, where colorful murals and street art make every corner feel like an exhibit.
Day 2 – Nature & Relaxation:
Visit the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to enjoy lush landscapes and a peaceful morning. In the afternoon, hit the beach. South Beach or Miami Beach for some sun, sand, and people watching. End the day with a sunset dinner at Smith & Wollensky for waterfront views and a classic Miami vibe.
Day 3 – Food & Local Culture:
Spend the morning in Little Havana, grabbing cafecito and walking down Calle Ocho. Try some Cuban snacks and soak in the vibrant culture. For lunch, stop at Old’s Havana or Puerto Sagua. Or head to Brickell for lunch at Casa Tua, Motek or Maman for something lighter and chic. Brunch options later in the week could include CASA NEOS or MILA.
Day 4 – Shopping & Style:
Explore the Miami Design District for high end boutiques, then check out Miami Worldcenter for exclusive retail and modern architecture. Finish the day at Bal Harbour Shops for iconic open air luxury shopping, and enjoy dinner at Makoto.
Day 5 – Scenic Views & Vibes:
Start the day with a walk or bike ride along the Venetian Causeway for stunning views of the bay and city skyline. In the evening, enjoy cocktails with a view at Sugar, Watr at 1 Rooftop, or Level 6. Then catch some live music at The Living Room at the Faena.
Day 6 – Dining & Special Experiences:
Plan dinners at some of my favorite spots: Sonny’s, Uchi, Daniels, LPM, Osaka, Sparrow or Yamashiro. For a unique Miami experience, consider a sunset boat tour around Star Island to see celebrity homes and the skyline from the water.
Day 7 – Culture & Farewell:
Catch a performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts to wrap up the week with culture and entertainment. End with a casual stroll along Ocean Drive at night to enjoy the neon lights and iconic Miami vibes one last time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would honestly dedicate my shoutout to my clients. As a solo business owner, their support means everything to me. They’ve trusted me not only with their hair, but with their time, their stories, and their loyalty and that’s something I never take for granted.
Many of them have been with me through different chapters of my journey, including the transition into opening my own studio. Their continued support, referrals, and belief in my work have played a huge role in helping me grow my business.
Beyond that, they’ve helped create the environment I value so much in my space. One that feels welcoming, genuine, and safe. In many ways, they’re not just clients, they’re a big part of the community I’ve built, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
