Meet Mara Fisher | Psychotherapist/Relationship Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mara Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mara, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
When I work with couples and individuals, I see the ripple effect it creates. A healthier relationship doesn’t just benefit the two people in it, it touches children, families, friends, and even workplaces. When people feel heard, understood, and supported, they show up in the world with more compassion and resilience. That naturally spreads forward.
On a larger scale, when more of us that can communicate clearly, navigate conflict with respect, and create authentic connections, our communities become stronger and safer places. In a small but meaningful way, each relationship I help heal or strengthen contributes to a world that has a little more kindness, patience, and love in it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I like to say I’m a perpetual student. I’ve earned many post-graduate certifications over the years, which gives me a variety of tools and approaches to help people reach their goals and heal their wounds. I’ve always known I wanted to build a private practice, so I put in the time and effort: networking, volunteering, joining groups, and making sure people in my community (and beyond) got to know me and my work.
It wasn’t an overnight process. For about five years, I worked full-time at the VA and other agencies during the day while building my private practice evenings and weekends. Little by little, it grew until I was able to leave my day job and devote myself fully to the work I love.
The key, I believe, is to genuinely love what you do, and I truly do. That passion has carried me through challenges, fueled my persistence, and allowed me to keep learning and growing along the way. I’m proud of the practice I’ve built, but more than that, I’m proud of the trust my clients place in me and the ripple effect that healing and healthier relationships have out in the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Miami and Miami Beach for a week, I’d want them to experience both the vibrant energy and the quieter gems that make this area so special.
We’d definitely spend some time wandering South Beach—people watching on Ocean Drive, strolling the Art Deco district, and relaxing on the sand. One evening, we’d have dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab—a Miami classic—and another night maybe something a little trendier like Stubborn Seed. For something more casual but delicious, I’d take them for Cuban food at Versailles or La Carreta.
We’d balance that nightlife sparkle with culture: a day at the Perez Art Museum for contemporary art, and maybe the Wynwood Walls to take in the murals and galleries, followed by a fun lunch in Wynwood. One evening we’d go hear live jazz; Miami has some wonderful little spots where the music scene is alive and warm.
To get a taste of old Florida, I’d plan a half-day trip to the Everglades for an airboat ride, it’s such a unique experience. Back in town, we’d explore Little Havana, grab a cafecito, and maybe catch some salsa music or dancing.
Of course, we’d also just spend some unhurried time hanging out, maybe rooftop cocktails at sunset, a boat ride on Biscayne Bay, or just walking along Lincoln Road with an ice cream in hand.
For me, the magic of Miami and Miami Beach is the mix, it’s lively and glamorous, but it’s also soulful, artistic, and full of hidden corners that feel like home once you find them. That’s the experience I’d want to share with my best friend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Growing up, my aunt and uncle were psychologists, and I always admired the work they did; I knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps. Along the way, I’ve been lucky to have incredible mentors. During my early years, I was fortunate to have Nathaniel Branden supervise my work, an incredible learning experience. I also had the privilege of studying with Stephen Gilligan, who continues to inspire me, along with Sydney Rosen and Harville Hendrix. Honestly, I’ve been blessed with so many remarkable teachers and influences over the years, it’s hard to name them all!
