Meet Samantha Goland | Therapist & Founder of Moonchild Counseling

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Goland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business came from a desire to create something more aligned with how I believe therapy should feel and function. In earlier roles, I gained invaluable experience, but I often found myself wanting more space to slow down, individualize care, and focus on deeper, more sustainable work with clients.
I was especially drawn to supporting teens and women in their 20s and 30s who were dealing with burnout, high anxiety, perfectionism, and patterns of people-pleasing. So many of my clients are used to being the ones who hold everything together, but underneath that, they’re overwhelmed, overthinking, and disconnected from themselves. I wanted to create a space where they didn’t have to perform or push through, and where therapy went beyond just managing symptoms.
My thought process wasn’t just about starting a business—it was about building something intentional. A space that felt grounded, relational, and rooted in nervous system-informed care, where clients could actually understand why they feel the way they do and experience meaningful, lasting shifts.
At the end of the day, it came down to alignment. I wanted to offer care that felt both impactful and sustainable, for my clients and for myself, and creating my own practice allowed me to do that in a way that fully reflects my approach and values.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice is centered around supporting teens and women in their 20s and 30s as they navigate some of the most formative and often overwhelming seasons of life. A lot of my clients are high-functioning on the outside, they’re responsible, self-aware, and used to showing up for others, but internally they’re dealing with overthinking, pressure, emotional burnout, or feeling disconnected from themselves.
I specialize in trauma and somatic therapy, with a strong focus on the nervous system. That means we’re not just talking through challenges, we’re also working with how stress, past experiences, and emotions are stored in the body. This approach allows clients to move beyond just managing symptoms and actually experience deeper, more lasting shifts in how they feel and respond in their day-to-day lives.
What sets my work apart is the balance between depth and approachability. Therapy at Moonchild Counseling is not rigid or overly clinical, it’s collaborative, grounded, and tailored to the individual. I integrate education, nervous system regulation tools, and real-life application in a way that feels relatable and sustainable, especially for clients who may have tried therapy before and felt like they were only getting surface-level support.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of creating a space that feels both safe and honest. My work is rooted in helping clients slow down and reconnect with themselves, but also in normalizing the realities of growth, especially during life transitions that don’t always get talked about. Whether it’s a teen learning how to navigate emotional overwhelm or a woman trying to find her footing in a new chapter, my goal is to make therapy feel accessible, supportive, and genuinely impactful.
I want readers to know that my practice is not quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions. It’s is building awareness, developing a more regulated and resilient nervous system, and creating a life that feels more aligned from the inside out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a hard question, there are so many amazing spots in St. Pete. If my best friend were visiting, I’d plan the week around a mix of really good food, slow mornings, and places that feel grounding.
We’d start our mornings with coffee at places like Paradeco, then ease into the day with a walk, either along St. Pete Pier or through neighborhoods filled with murals and local shops.
I’d definitely include spending a morning at The Dalí Museum or walking through Sunken Gardens, those are the kinds of places that make the city feel especially unique and intentional.
For dinners, I’d mix in a few spots that feel like an experience, like Olivia for a nicer night out where you can slow down and really enjoy the atmosphere. We’d also plan at least one more wellness-focused day, something like a morning yoga class followed by coffee, just to balance everything out.
In the evenings, I’d keep it simple, grabbing drinks or ending the night with a walk by the water.
Honestly, some of the best moments would probably be the unplanned ones. St. Pete has that kind of energy where you don’t have to do too much to have a really good time, it naturally invites you to slow down and just enjoy where you are.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely give a lot of credit to the mentors and supervisors I had early in my career. Working in high-intensity settings, I was surrounded by clinicians who challenged me to think more deeply, stay grounded under pressure, and really trust the therapeutic process. That kind of guidance shaped not only my clinical skills, but how I show up for my clients today.
I’d also say my clients deserve a lot of recognition. Being invited into someone’s inner world and witnessing their growth, especially through burnout, anxiety, and patterns like perfectionism or people-pleasing, is something I don’t take lightly. Their willingness to be honest, to show up, and to do the work is a huge part of why I’ve been able to grow both as a therapist and as a business owner.
And on a more personal level, the support from people in my own life, friends and family, has been essential. Building something of your own comes with a lot of unknowns, and having people who encourage you, reflect you back to yourself, and support your vision makes a meaningful difference.
