We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Bru and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me happy is uplifting others, making art, being in nature, and praising God.
These things keep me grounded and focused. They bring me peace and remind me of what matters most in life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is rooted in abstract expression with subtle messages of faith and encouragement woven throughout. I draw from 80s and 90s nostalgia, especially Miami Vice and Memphis design, and blend that with surreal and contemporary forms.
My journey has not been easy. It has taken time, discipline, and a lot of learning through experience. I made mistakes along the way, but I also grew from them. I studied artists I admire and stayed committed to improving my craft.
I have learned to not take myself too seriously, to trust God more, and to set boundaries that protect my life and my work. I have also learned that consistency matters more than perfection. I just keep creating no matter what.
What I want people to know is that my work is an extension of my faith, my discipline, and my belief that joy and meaning can be created and shared through art.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would show them a mix of art, nature, food, and local culture so they can really feel the spirit of Miami.
We would start with a bike ride through South Beach, then grab Cuban food at Puerto Sagua. We would spend time at Maggie’s for charcuterie in a relaxed setting.
We would visit the Pérez Art Museum Miami to see the Plensa sculpture and spend time by the water. I would also take them to Red Rooster in Overtown to enjoy the food and view the art collection there.
For nature, we would swim at Sunny Isles Beach, go kayaking at Oleta River State Park, and take a walk on the trail near North Dade Regional Library.
I would also include a stop at the Bakehouse Art Complex bookstore to explore local artists and creative work. It would be a balanced week of movement, creativity, and calm spaces.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out The Peace Studio for connecting me with a strong community of artists and helping me think more deeply about creating work with purpose.
I also want to recognize the Miami-Dade Public Library System and their exhibition program for supporting local artists and helping preserve Miami’s creative culture. That support really matters and creates real opportunities.
