We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudio Roncoli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claudio, what are you inspired by?
My last series of works is called Empty Project. It is about how cities were changing from cultural / social habits to just commercial habits. Before, cities were built around a square where people socialized, where neighborhood clubs were important, they were spaces where you could meet your next friend or partner. In these times, new cities are built from shopping malls, where consuming is the most important thing, where if you cannot buy a coffee you cannot socialize with anyone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We would love to know what sets you apart from others. I think that what distinguishes me from others is that I care a lot about the concept, because the concept is the foundation of an idea. Without concept the idea falls and does not last in time. Few artists in the world are interested in our work having a certain depth, development and concept, I don’t like works that only remain anecdotal or visual. what makes you most proud or excited. It makes me proud to know that what I do is because I like it, and because I am responsible for what I do and feel. I always say that an artist is not important or successful because of their sales, but because of their dedication and commitment. Success is doing what we like to do in a forceful way. How did you get where you are today professionally? There are several factors, my path to get to what I am today was very special, first because until I was 10 years old I lived surrounded by toys and school supplies, my parents had a toy store and a bookstore. After I grew up I started working as an Art Director in important advertising agencies, that mixed with my career in Fine Arts was the perfect mix for what I am today. It was easy? Something difficult is when you don’t know about something. Or you don’t know about what interests you a lot. So starting in any field is always difficult because we do not know the roles, customs or laws. That’s why easy comes with experience, over the years. If not, how did you overcome the challenges? I overcome my challenges by having a lot of faith. Faith in what I do, in every step I take. Of course there are days when I wake up with doubts, but it lasts for hours, then I go back to raising my passion in what I do. Passion and persistence is the key to everything we wanted to achieve. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and history? I want to leave an important legacy in the world of art and culture. I want my four children to be proud of what I did. I want other artists to learn to persist, to be responsible for their work, that not everything is painting a canvas, that you can research, travel, grow and leave a legacy as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I could travel back in time to my past in art, there are three important moments. First when I was studying in Fine Arts, art school and all my former classmates I remember them fondly, they were 5 wonderful years. Then I remember my first solo exhibition at Galeria Praxis, it was a very big leap in my career. And where I would also take friends, many friends is to Las Vegas and New York, where I won my Latin Grammy and American Grammy for best art direction in record packaging.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It inspires me to continue on my path, all those people who have shown through history that you can dream and achieve the objectives that you set yourself. From Edison to Musk, inventors are people who persist, because persistence for me is the key to everything. Music also inspires me a lot, because few dare to break the mold, Jack White for example.
