Meet Christina Wexler: Owner, Bay38 Furniture

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Wexler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, how has your pespective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I used to think that physically showing up for work somehow gave it more value. My generation and ones before commuted to the workplace via trains, subways, cars, etc. Somehow the many hours spent out of the house meant, you worked really hard and earned it. When I started to have children it was a big adjustment to figure out how to still be successful and be home more frequently. I opened a retail shop and it gave me schedule and purpose but I still felt like I was juggling too much between work and home. Rushing home to make dinner, still having the shop on my mind and not being totally present for my family. I finally gave up the brick and mortar shop, moved to a warehouse and currently do almost all of my business online or by appointment only. It took me years to get to a place that I am really in charge of my time. I can give to my now “teenagers” quality time and energy before they leave the nest.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Bay38 features a curated, eclectic collection of antiques & vintage furnishings. I think that my art background and love of interior design is clearly represented in Bay38’s vibe and overall image. Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Perfect day trip to Miami-Wynwood and lunch at KYU. Antiquing and lunching in West Palm Beach A day of brewery hopping, we have so many good ones. Prosperity Brewers, Barrell of Monks, Due South, NoBo Brewing Eating on the water anywhere in South Florida is a win! BEACH, BEACH, BEACH and BBQ- preferably at Spanish River

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For me, listening to other women in business has always been extremely helpful in terms of guiding me. It’s Important to be able to express your self doubts or worries and have a sounding board. Pam Heikkinen, owner of French Laundry No. 9 as well as Susan Lemire of Haven Uncommon Goods have been my mentors. These women have been supportive and given me useful business advice. It’s important to have creative cheerleaders on your playing field. Thanks sistas!
