We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac “Voice of G” Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac “Voice of G”, how does your business help the community?
With the Voice Visions Presents Podcast I try to shine a light on local up and coming artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs to create a positive dialogue. I know that there are others who just like me when I first started making music, felt uninspired and discouraged to continue because they didn’t have the mindset or the tools available to be successful. Through this podcast I hope to encourage others to open up their own businesses, start their careers and truly enjoy working on something that gets them paid and improves their overall quality of life. I wanted to also take the time and give a shout out to Roots Miami Kava. I started the show in people’s living rooms and now I’m proud to be working with Roots who has provided me with a space.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a creative. I don’t like to just call myself one thing because I do so much. I started writing raps and songs when I was very young. I must have been nine or ten years old when I wrote my first poem or song. I remember being afraid to show anyone my art. The first person I remember showing my lyrics to was my grandmother. She always told me I was going to be an artist even before anyone else noticed. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2013. It was my senior year and it was the hardest thing I had ever faced before. I felt depressed and the only thing that helped me was the music. I was trash at first I won’t lie. I couldn’t find my flow or rhythm. However, when I was at Miami Dade College my friends, Marcus, Manny and Luko pushed me to keep going. Without them, I probably would have quit a long time ago. It’s been almost 8 years now that I have been taking my art seriously and I have to say I am the happiest I have ever been, being myself. With Voice of G, you are getting a hip-hop artist that is focused on spreading positive vibes and love. With Voice Visions, you are getting a show for all creatives to feel inspired and motivated.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So in Miami, our nightlife is notoriously reduced sometimes to just Miami Beach. Don’t get me wrong, we feel proud to have our ocean drive and south beach however, there is definitely more to the city than just that. I would start the day by going through little Havana where they can absorb the latin culture that radiates down here. They definitive would have to try some cuban coffee and cuisine. I would then take them down to Bayside or even to catch a Miami Heat game at the american airlines arena. We can then visit the Vizcaya museum and the Frost Museum of Science. Finally for the night life, I’d take them through wynwood to experience the creative culture and environment that it holds. We could even finish the night with some healthy and relaxing drinks at Roots Miami Kava’s open mic night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In terms of taking my music and podcasting to where it is today I have to thank a few people. Actually, quite a lot of people. Without D.Tech and Exxcal there is no Peace of Mind and there is probably no more music coming from me. A few months ago I thought about retiring from making music, however these guys have pushed me to continue my journey. Because of them I was able to make my debut album, The Park, which dropped in February. For the podcast I have to thank these two guys as well since they gave me the opportunity to do my first episode with them. Also a big shout out goes to my good friend Josue, who has been telling me for years to start one. Last but not least, I want to thank my family and my beautiful girlfriend, Emily, who constantly keeps it real with me and is always available to support me and give me feedback on my projects.
