We had the good fortune of connecting with Guillermo Jop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Guillermo, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that in order to reach my dreams and be successful, it was necessary to always take risks wisely, knowing that each decision can turn out differently from how I planned it, but also believing that if it is achieved, then it will be something amazing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m the creative director of the brand GUiSHEM. Superheroes and architecture are the main inspiration of my brand and has become a strong part of the brand’s identity. My collections are recognized for that and I like to create an emotion when my costumers wear my designs, the feel of empowerment.
Many celebrities have worn my designs.
I’m a doer and a re-searcher; I even move to London to study Innovative Pattern Cutting. I like to get involve in every aspect of the collection from choosing fabrics, developing the collection, the finishes of the garments until the final product in order to have a good quality. I love to do research in order to learn even more every time.
I don’t like to wait until things happen, I love to get involve and get things moving.
From the beginning, my dream has been to create a lifestyle luxury brand, not just a fashion label. In 2015 we launched our nail polish line in order to expand the brand and enter into the beauty market.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend is visiting me on Friday, I would planned to take him to have some drinks at Frida’s – La Estación. Then, I would take him to have dinner at Jake’s. Then, on Saturday, we would have breakfast at Pia’s Bakery. At lunch I would take him to La Antigua Guatemala and eat at a French restaurant Tartines. Then, we would walk through La Antigua and until we arrive to Rama. In there we would have some amazing cocktails while watching the sunset. On Sunday, we would wake up and order for brunch some Pappy’s BBQ. Then, we would drive back to the city and have an early dinner at a steakhouse, Montano’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success is thanks to God, my parents and my wife who have supported me from the beginning. Especially, my father has taught me to be responsible and fighter to reach my goals. He has also taught me how overcome the challenges, to stand up when the outcome does not go the way I planned it.
