We had the good fortune of connecting with PK and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PK, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I actually have a few of these:

1. “Closed mouths don’t get fed.”
If you don’t speak or go for it you’ll never know the answer therefore being stuck with the thoughts of “What if” and “I wish”

2. “Business first… Politics never.”
If it’s not about your business don’t make it about your business. Granted, in this game there’s always politics but that doesn’t mean you have to be apart of them. Keep your head down, feet on the ground and stick to you and your work.

3. “Never leave a door open for anybody to walk in and talk about you.”
This one I would to say is self explanatory.

The thing I like most about these is that they just don’t pertain to your work/business life but they go for your real life as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like put out dance visuals… Artistically for my visuals I like to use real life things as a form of inspiration. I use things/ideas/concepts/people/real life situations as motivation. I try to find a way to do things in a way that’s different but at the same time have it be relatable to the person/people that’s viewing it.

As a creative in this aspect I think what sets me apart from most is that I’m not afraid of time. We’re in a world where the internet/social media is king and that people can be famous one day and gone the next. There are people who rush their art just to get the views, oh’s and ah’s from the people… I honestly don’t do all of that.

What you put out is a representation of who you are and what you want to show, I don’t let the smoke and mirrors of Social media speed up my process. When the visual is good, I’ll let it out if not it’s gonna sit there until it looks the way I need to look.

As for how I got to where I am today is that I just remained vigilant kept going. (I mean to be honest I’m still working as hard as I can to be better)

there are some challenges that come with it…. you are going to have days that you won’t want to do what you love, on any given Sunday you can lose some sort of passion literally out of the blue. The trick is to not look as loses as defeats but as a way of life telling you to work harder, keep moving forward. Also there’s comparison, which can become the ultimate thief of joy if you allow it to. There are going to be times where you’re going to compare your chapter 1 with someone else’s chapter 20, don’t do that to yourself. Teach yourself to enjoy the process, learn to love it because you have all to gain and nothing to lose.

What I learned through my experiences is that persistence is key, resilience is king and determination is the foundation of both…. and that’s just not in dancing that’s in life as well. Even if you decide to not dance anymore the lesson in life is the same… keep going.

I was asked at one point if I wanted to rich or famous… I said neither, I want to be relevant. I honestly just want to be known for giving my best in any and everything I’ve done. As a teacher I want to be known for genuinely caring about the growth of my students and for keeping the same energy wither in a room of 2 or of 200. As a creative I honestly just want to be known for being different and for having a different outlook on how to approach dance and film and hopefully having my own unique voice when the art speaks for itself.
