We had the good fortune of connecting with Gway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gway, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
“Imagination is more important than knowledge” – Albert Einstein. This quote has carried me through my everyday life because the meaning is way deeper than what it portrays. Sometimes people in life won’t see your vision or dreams, and that’s okay because everything in this life started with an imagination and wouldn’t have been a reality without risk being taken. Life is all about risks, you never know what might happen until you take that leap of faith and go through the journey. Honestly starting music was my risk that I was willing to take. In the beginning, you’ll have people doubt you and lots of discouragement, which could come from the people close to you. Fear was the biggest issue for me, being scared of an outcome that could either be negative or positive. I came to a realization that we live in fear every day but we wake up and keep going knowing the next day isn’t promised. The most important thing I had to remember was “This is my Journey and I want to take it”, Not everyone will see my vision because they’re simply not me
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I go by Gway and I am a music artist from Broward County, Florida. What sets me aside from others is my headspace, I have learned to turn my losses into lessons and overcome adversity. I have a deep story that I feel the world has to hear, On October 6, 2020, my father passed away. I was numb and in a dark place in my life, somewhere where only God and music could bring me out. In my life, prior to music, I was an athlete and never once thought about being an artist but after my pops died I had no tears in me, all I had left was the pain inside that needed to be released. So I went to my teammate’s dorm room and freestyled my first song which is on all streaming platforms (Trumpets – Gway). If you listen to that song you will understand the type of hurt, confusion, and trauma that I was going through at the time. From that moment I fell in love with music as my outlet to express myself with no judgment. My journey was not an easy one and there’s still much more left that I have to accomplish and learn. I hope my music really touches the people who have lost a parent because in life you can let a situation be your downfall or let it motivate you to be great, and one thing for sure is I’m always going to motivate my supporters or anyone I encounter to be great. I want to be a leader that young kids or even adults can look up to and be motivated by.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out God, Talent Over Clout, my family, friends, and all my fans and supporters, These are the people that keep me going when life gets rocky. I would be nothing without one of these groups.
