We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Domenech and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jose, how do you think about risk?
In my career, taking risks has been something constant and essential. There is always one step further, and if your heart tells you that you have to take it, the risk is something that is associated with it and you carry it with you. In fact, I see it as much more risky not to act and launch yourself when you feel you have to, because that means that fear or effort wins over your desire to grow and advance.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I come from the artistic world. I have been a pianist, musical director, composer and producer for many international artists. I have always been an independent artist and I have had to worry about guiding my career and being able to survive, both artistically and financially. This, of course, has its difficulties, since work as an artist is not something stable, you do not have vacations, you have a lot of competition… There have been moments of fear, of wanting to leave everything and return to the comfort of my home, you know? but there is always someone next to you who pushes you and makes you see that, if you want to achieve something, you have to fight it until you feel that the fight is no longer worth it. Difficulties teach you to be honest with yourself, to really know what you are willing to do to achieve your goal.
I was lucky enough to be able to interact with people from both the artistic world and the business world, and this made a change in my way of seeing things. Especially John, my partner, saw in me the possibility of creating a technology that would give the independent artist the opportunity to manage his project and make a living from it. We did a music-business exchange, and he became my mentor for the business part. We saw that we had chemistry doing things together, and a common vision of giving it a new form that helps new artists to structure and grow, but in a real way, since I myself as an artist have lived it.
This is why we created strommar, to put the independent artist at the center of the game.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
about Miami? You can’t miss mythical things like Lincoln Road, Key Biscayne, Calle 8, the beaches, Coral Gables, the shopping malls… if you come as a tourist you have to see those things. Now you have things like The Underline, which is something spectacular so that everyone can enjoy a walk in the middle of the city, or enjoy outdoor activities. The amount of live music in hotels, in auditoriums… the truth is full of life and continues to grow day by day. Although I would always take the opportunity to go to New York for at least one weekend. I think it’s something you have to see at least once in your life. So we would have a very busy week!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
wow! I am very lucky and I have had many people who have supported me at certain times, I don’t want to leave anyone out! But I do have a top (I don’t know if 5 or more), especially from my time in the USA. The first is my wife Cinthya, who has been and continues to be my inspiration every day. The rest of the positions are very balanced, but I would like to highlight my friend and partner John Daly, my mentor, co-founder of strommar and music composer too!, our partner Ronie Cadario, of course Ruben Campbell who has been one of the driving forces behind this entire adventure in Miami, and Waldy Dominguez, my friend of a thousand battles over the years. I’m sorry to leave people, like artists and musicians that I love so much and who are very important to me, but I don’t want to take up all your space!
