We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Wills and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, how do you think about risk?
For me, without some aspect of risk connected to my work, I feel a lack of drive and motivation. Risk is exciting to me, if it is a risk to achieve something that I feel will stand out more in my life than taking the easy or safe route, then it gives me a much bigger sense of accomplishment and self-pride to know that I went a route that most would choose not to, and my risk paid off. People tend to know my work for the higher sales I have achieved due to the risks I take.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As much of a hard working self-employed real estate agent that I am, I am also a very driven and passionate musician. I have always had a love for music, as growing up around my father, who was and is a very successful musician/rock star, it was inevitable that I would develop a love for music and the business behind it. My father played bass guitar in bands such as Bad Company and Foreigner and also with solo artists like Peter Frampton and David Gilmour. Growing up around these amazing artists and eventually touring with bands like Styx myself, I learned many different life skills that I carry with me today.
Knowing when to listen and when to talk, how to persuade different types of personalities, selling yourself to strangers, striking up conversations to gain people’s trust.
Being a musician and being on the road traveling, I learned so many things that have made me who I am today.
Being creative and artistic allows me to market and promote my listings much more effectively also.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OK, so my best friend Kevin is coming from Malibu, CA to stay in Miami with me and I need to entertain him! (I will be working on my phone without him even knowing I’m working the whole time!) First we are going to have lunch at SuViche Wynwood! I love this spot for lunch, sitting outside at the bar. The bar staff know me and always give amazing service!
Then I will take Kevin to check out the Gibson Guitars showroom, to give him a tour of where I am a sound engineer during their special events that they host with companies like the Latin Grammy’s, Billboard Magazine and lots of others. The guitar collection in this place is almost overwhelming but always inspiring!
For the afternoon, I would take him and my dog Bailey over to Haulover Beach dog park to relax for a while, then check out the skate park in the parking lot before we leave, (love the pump track there!)…
In the evening we would grab some sushi from Katana (or Sushi Boat as we call it) for some insanely fresh fish.
Day two, speaking of fresh fish, we would go north on Biscayne Blvd. to see the amazing Blue Runner fish truck to get a pint of suviche and some sushi grade salmon and tuna and make home-made sushi for lunch! That night we would go to 1-800-Lucky to grab a few vinyl records and some Korean bbq, then over to Gramp’s to see my band Stardust One rock the house!
Day three, with a bit of a hangover, we head over to the Citadel for the best coffee in all of Miami where they serve the coffee through beer taps! Fully caffeine’d up and ready to go, we will head over to the Design District to stop in to Chrome Hearts, where I used to work, and actually helped with the build-out as an assistant foreman before they opened. For dinner we make reservations at Cote Miami for some incredible steak.
Day four, we have a chill day and do some paddle boarding on the river in El Portal where we live in Sherwood Forrest.
Day five, we go for lunch at the outside bar of Smith & Woolensky’s on South Beach to people-watch and see some beautiful yachts and cruise ships heading out of the port of Miami. After that we catch a movie on Lincoln Road and have a quick dinner after at Burgers and Shakes around the corner.
The weekend is here and as a grand finale he and I go to catch a Black Label Society show at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale! An epic week in South Florida…this of course is total fantasy, as due to parenthood, this kind of schedule is no longer a reality for me! I do visit all of these great spots but not all in one week! LOL
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a huge thank you and dedication to my wife, Ms. Beth Studenberg. From the day we met, Beth has always loved me for who I am, what I do and how I live my life. We support each other in this same way. She has helped me in every way, from motivation, discipline, financially to get my new career off the ground and with more love than I could ever deserve. My parents are also a big factor in my success. They have always encouraged and supported my life at home with my family, in my passion for music and in my professional life as a Realtor®. For me, my family is my absolute number one priority. Every day, when I’m working as hard as I can, they are in the back of my mind pushing me further than I would go alone.
