We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaela Genovese and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaela, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Personally, I feel I can contribute much of my success to living a very ritualistic life. I am a creature of habit. I thrive on having a harmonious daily routine that consist of being healthy and happy on a regular basis. Of course, life throws you curve balls (more than you’d like at times) but it’s important to realize YOU are responsible for YOUR happiness and YOU have the power to lift YOURSELF up! Be the change that you wish to see! I am one that thrives on working out daily. Exercise is my therapy – it clears my head of anything that isn’t good for my soul. I enjoy a mix of running, race walking, HIIT’s, kickboxing, body sculpt, and yoga. When I am on a long run my mind shifts gears and goes into a “creative mode”. I think of new designs to create, how I can improve my business, what trends I want to embark on, how I can establish a new trend, etc. It’s definitely a great time for me to get “in my zone”. Another habit I practice daily, checking my emails! I am so not that person that has that ‘red notification’ on my email app that reads 13,456 emails. I could never haha! I have about 5 active emails and I like to ensure I check my emails every morning so I can get back to manufactures, customers, reply to inquiries, and yes, sometimes I’m guilty of a little shopping here and there via those promo emails we all receive 😉 Lastly, I like to surround myself with positive, motivating, uplifting, business-minded individuals that I can grow from. I am so blessed to have established the relationships that I have – each has impacted me more than I could ever imagine! I love bouncing ideas off my mentors/peers and get their take and try to see things from their point of view. Often times, I have created the most successful lines from getting feedback from the “consumers point of view” rather than just viewing something from the “designer point of view”. All in all, my daily habits have shaped me into who I am today, someone that is organized, efficient, and a multi-tasker and ready to take on any and all challenges that come my way! I am so extremely grateful for my past experiences and my present, and I look forward to future opportunities to grow and develop my business in an even greater way! Cheers!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career, believe it or not, started way back when I was just 3-years old! I was a little toddler that loved to play dress up and wear my mom’s jewelry, high heels, and all things that made me feel pretty and mature for my age. I owned my first beading kit around that young age and always had high hopes of going into a field that allowed me to be creative, successful, and most importantly, one that I would absolutely love! I believe my collection appeals to many different ages, styles, etc. My price point is between $55-$625. I have three sub-parts to my overall collection, which include: my Hand-Made Designs, my Personal Favs, and my One-Of-A-Kinds. I hand make several items, I incorporate pieces that are pre-manufactured that I love into my collection, and I also personally design several items. I feel it’s an eclectic mix and all three parts make the perfect whole. I am most proud that I took that leap of faith and really pursued my entrepreneurial passion and launched my business on July 27, 2018. I was nervous to take that leap of faith but it was so worth it! Everyday, I am truly so grateful for all the people I have met, all the opportunities that have come my way, and all the lessons that I have learned/continue to learn. I want to personally thank everyone who has supported me each and every step of the way – THANK YOU to those who have really believed in me and helped my vision come to life! I truly would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for your guidance, support, love, generosity, and positive affirmations. I am so excited to continue to grow my brand and to share my new designs with you. My dream has become my reality! For anyone out there who wants to start something but is hesitate, nervous, and/or scared, some advice I’d like to share with you is “You can do it (life) like it’s a great weight on you, or you can do it (life) like it’s part of the dance” – Ram Dass This has resonated with me and helped me realize that every situation can be looked at either as a positive or a negative. We can view the obstacles we are faced with through different perspectives, but it’s important to remember to choose a perspective that is clear, positive, and one that will grow and develop you in a unique way.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If my best friend were visiting I would have the following itinerary planned out: an exercise activity for us in the morning, following by homemade post-smoothies or avo toast. Next we’d take a splash in the pool and lie poolside for a few hours to get our sun kissed glow. Lunch at the Breakers Seafood Bar, shopping on Worth, then The Royal for gelato at Sant Ambroeus. We’d then dine at my fav Pizza Al Fresco for Italian. If we wanted to road trip – we’d take a trip down to Miami and eat at Cacio e Pepe – they have THE best “cacio e pepe”.  If it was in-season, and on a Sunday, we’d make sure we attend a Polo Game followed by dinner, drinks, and dancing at The Trophy Room in Wellington.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No other than the one that brought me into this world, MY MAMI! Seriously, I would be completely lost without her and the guidance she has provided me throughout these 30 years of my life here on Earth! She grounds me when I need to be grounded; she educates and guides me in making the best decision that not only positively impacts myself, but also my future, and my business. Most importantly, she has taught me to see beauty in everything and everyone. She is the definition of “selfless”. I always like to ask her, “How did I get to be the complete opposite of you Ma?” I’m an extrovert and a people pleaser. I love hosting and attending parties, socializing in large group settings, putting together gatherings, vocalizing my thoughts/opinions/feelings, etc. My mom is more reserved and keeps a lot to herself. She always reminds me, “Kaela, God gave us ONE mouth and TWO ears! You must listen more and speak less.” When I was younger I never understood why she did the things she did, but as I am viewing life from a different more mature perspective, I’ve realized she is so wise and such a pure sweet soul. She has taught me just because I feel the way I feel toward something or someone does not permit that person to feel the same way. I, as well as her, like to see the good in everyone. However, sometimes I have too high of expectations of others and I get disappointed easily. Mom has taught me to just do and not expect a single thing from anyone! “Just do things from the pureness, goodness, and kindness of your heart and others or their actions won’t disappoint you.” How blessed am I to have HER as my mother, mentor, best friend, and confidant?!! Thank you x’s a million Mom for blessing me with your knowledge, love, and friendship!
