We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Matheus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m pursuing a career as a singer because it’s my passion and it’s what I truly enjoy. Songwriting and producing music really doesn’t feel like work to me. Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved everything related to music and I learned to play several instruments. I also learned to produce content for social media like videos and pictures and editing them is a lot of fun. This knowledge made it easier for me to pursue my artistic dream as I could do it all by myself and sometimes with the help of my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was blessed to make it among the top 10 in a singing competition that aired on Univision called “La Banda”. This gave me the push I needed to pursue my dream. After La Banda I began making covers on YouTube, then transitioned into writing my own songs with other collaboraters. It took me a while to find my sound, but when I finally did, I think what sets it apart is that it’s a mixture of different genres and even different cultures. In Fases, I tried to combine American melodies with Spanish lyrics or vice versa. Towards the end you begin to hear a mixture of genres. I think this is what sets my music apart the most, all my influences coming together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Steve’s pizza to eat. They have the best pizza I’ve ever tried. I’d also take them to South Beach, maybe even some wakeboarding. For the night time we would either go to the studio or head out to El Patio, one of my favorite places in Miami.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my parents for inspiring this dream in me, to my uncle Alfredo Matheus for always helping me accomplish it. I’m very proud of my most recent album “Fases”. There were many people involved in bringing this album to life, the list would be too long to name all of them. But some producers and writers are Merahki, Rob Dymez, Christopher Velez, and Oliver Matheus. As well as the featured artists on the album, Gus, Morty, Nezza, and Luissette.
