We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexzandra Giordano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexzandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It’s funny because I always enjoyed being a part of a large corporation, working with teams to create magic and deliver results.

I’d often say I wouldn’t run my own company because of this.

This was the safety net and comfort in routine, and ultimately the excuse NOT to venture into the unknown.

At the end of the day, I knew I had too much drive, passion and talent to be capped at growth, creativity and salary and not create something of my own

It felt like a constant calling, a voice in your head that doesn’t fade with time but gets louder until you have no choice other then to take the jump & finally create the life you always envisioned.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Genesi Design Studio is comprised of interior design, home staging, Feng Shui & turn key property leasing.

Our company originated in Toronto, Canada. Where I’m originally from.

My ultimate dream: was to own and operate a fulfilling company (at the time of my dreaming I couldn’t pin point what exactly that was) only that I’d own something, it would be international in my favourite US cities, and it would be doing something I love to do

I am most proud of actually achieving exactly that.

We now have teams in Toronto and Miami and we’re growing!

I believe what sets us apart is our Feng Shui division. Connecting people to their spaces is truly a harmonious production. It extends far beyond designing a space that is simply aesthetically pleasing- but also energetically charged giving you and your guests an overwhelmingly sense of joy when you’re within those 4 walls.

Was it easy? Quite actually the hardest thing I have ever done. Scariest! Most complicated especially as a Canadian opening and investing in a company within the United States. But when your passion outweighs your fear and you accept it, you become unstoppable – that’s also probably my biggest lesson and piece of advice to anyone in their early stages of creating what they want for themselves.

Just. Do it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Ok being new to Miami this might be tough but here’s my best shot as a newbie 🙂

We would eat in Wynwood, so many amazing restaurants especially if you need awesome vegan options- or Casa Tua (good luck getting in) Mr.Chows for sure, Mandolin in the design district is beyond- Rodilla coffee in wynwood might be the best and I absolutely cannot forget Pura Vida

A little more North I’d say Ke-Uh at the Acqualina and Bourbon Steak are a 10000% must try

We’d hang out at Soho House, or in my building in midtown! So beautiful

We would do yoga at Ahana Yoga in the design district. Most impressive instructors and studio I have ever seen and been a part of.

Aventura mall is such a great mall! Bal Harbour obviously and you can’t not eat at Makoto or Carpaccio

Come back to me with this question in 6 months when I’ve explored a little more!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Before I began design I was immersed in the retail industry. I worked so hard to climb the ladder. I observed my superiors so closely. I asked every question I could. Stayed late every hour that was available just to get closer to the people and the positions I admired.

All of my retail leaders – good and bad shaped who I am today and how I operate my business but in particular I’d have to say:

The retail industry &
The greatest boss I worked for– Amy Shearer

Retail gave me my thick skin, my business acumen, my selling skills, my customer interactions skills, my confidence to create, lead, succeed, win and lose and how to get up after you’ve lost & most certainly my introduction to interior design

Amy taught me how to be thoughtful & practical and have a purpose with everything I do. How to slow down…. those words “slow down” a frequent phrase she’d repeat to me that I still tell myself today…golden words !!!
