We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Elvir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I don’t think you will be 100% successful unless you are passionate about what you are doing. I do believe that if you love what you do, it won’t feel like work. I started by focusing on a hobby that I have turned into a full-time job. The most important decision I made was going all in and putting my all into my new venture.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What started by creating content for my Instagram page @southflorida_teddybear became a full-time job because we are hired to provide pet-friendly tours and promote products that we love. I now also assist small businesses with creating their social media channels and creating content that will get their followers to engage in their content. When I first started, I think the biggest challenge was trying something new and working for myself instead of a company. When you work for yourself, you create the rules, the number of hours you work, and your expectations, and I think that’s a huge change. The good thing is I have always been good with time-management, and I have always been hard on myself. I had been working in the event industry since the age of 18 so switching to social media is something new, and your learning a completely different industry.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a great question. I absolutely love it so let’s get started. Day 1 – stay at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach and enjoy breakfast at Swiftys Pool and take a dip in the pool. (Palm Beach) have afternoon tea at The Chesterfield Palm Beach and enjoy a bike ride by the beach. Day 3. (Fort Lauderdale) stay at the W Fort Lauderdale. Grab breakfast at the Alchemist. Go back to the hotel to enjoy a relaxing day at their Away Spa and have lunch at S3, where they also serve a dog’s menu all week long. The hotel also has excellent restaurants that you can try for dinner. Day 4. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would reach out to my hospitality industry contacts that worked at pet-friendly locations and see if they would allow Teddy & me to go there and take photos and videos. Our Instagram page started to get noticed, and I decided to post my videos on my LinkedIn page that is where I met Ari Glassman. Ari is a marketing guru and handles the marketing for myfortlauderdalebeach.com and many other businesses. She ended up hiring us to create videos for the businesses on the beach that were pet-friendly. She made me realize that I had a great idea, and I truly owe her a huge thank you for all of her support and encouragement she has provided me. My Mom needs to be recognized as well because she always believes in me and said I should give this a shot, and I am glad I did.
