We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Dowdy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Austin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Back in 2014 all of my friends were making music. I knew I was creative, but I’m not musically inclined plus I wanted to do something different. I decided to start a clothing brand which at the time was called Ratchetmobb. It was to go along with my friends music to help them get more publicity, events, etc. Then I thought to myself, “why just stop at making clothes? I can coordinate and put together events as well. I can advertise my clothing brand while helping give my musician friends a platform without having to deal with a middle man.”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me and my brand apart from the others is that we wear our Trials and our Errors on our sleeves (literally). My journey has been a roller coaster that had a lot of downs which lead me to changing the brand name to Trial N Error. We have to keep trying and learn from our mistakes to continuously get better.. we may never be perfect, but we can be more perfect than we were the day before. It’s a life long process that is unavoidable, so we decided to face it head on and become one with our mistakes.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I know this is Shoutout Miami, but I’m from Palm Beach so I would love to shout out some Palm Beach spots. For the food, Gordo’s in West Palm and Green’s Pharmacy on the island. My favorite thing to do when people visit from out of town is just drive south on A1A until we hit Miami then I would show them the usual spots like Wynwood, Brickell, and Bayside. Shoutout to the Seminole Casino too!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is a few people I would like to show love and appreciation to. My grandfather, my mother, Mac Miller, and Brandon Lee, also my bro Trevis who has been there since day one.
