We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Medard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Briana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my own business because I was in college studying business with a specialization in entrepreneurship. I loved what I was studying and started brainstorming ways I could start something of my own. After a few days or researching various small business needs, combined with the love I had for my marketing class, I decided that I wanted to do social media marketing and websites for small businesses. Having a business of my own would allow me to make some extra money, help out my mom and I had hoped it would feed my desire to have a life of freedom and independence.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the owner of Lione House Consulting and U Go! Entrepreneur.
At Lione House Consulting I help small businesses, entrepreneurs and lawyers build their business and brand. I do everything from 60-minute clarity sessions to help you tackle specific issues in your business, consulting on projects, to support with day-to-day task like social media management, marketing and business development and administrative support. I tend to work with new entrepreneurs a lot. They’re usually in their early 20s or so. But I also have a strong clientele of 45+ entrepreneurs who aren’t very savvy and are looking for someone young, techy and knowledgeable to help them figure out this whole business thing.
Lione House Consulting is meant to be a one stop shop for business owners. Not only can clients come to me to get advice on how to grow their business, launch their business, develop strategy, branding, etc. But they also have someone to support them and do many of the task they need help with to accomplish their business goals.
One thing I’ve learned in business is that no one gets to the top on their own – you need support. And sometimes it can feel like you’re drowning in your business. And as an entrepreneur, myself, I know just how that feels. And that’s what I’m here for. To give my clients the support, guidance and tools they need to thrive.
My biggest thing with my clients is that I want them all to feel heard, supported and understood. And know that when they hire me, I’m not just working for them but with them. Their success is my success and seeing them win is important to me. And I completely understand their desire to build something successful, leaving behind something for their families and children, have that ownership, freedom, independence and build a business that supports a good life and I’m there with them every step of the way to help them achieve that as best I can.
I take a fun approach to working with my clients. In a review, one of my clients said “I felt like I was talking to my best friend”. And that’s what I strive for. It’s important to build that level of trust with my clients because it makes the experience of working together all the better. But, I’m not one to sugar coat and coddle my clients either. I keep it real too! I will not have my clients looking crazy and making poor decisions, because that’s a reflection of me as well.
I feel like having this level of understanding of my clients, the approach I take to working with them and being so hands on, helps to set me apart from other consultants and coaches.
I’m most proud of where I am right now in my businesses. I’ve been in business since 2012 and it wasn’t until 2020 that I really figured out what I really need to be doing, who I want to serve and how to serve. It’s a great feeling! For a long time, I used to beat myself up a lot about feeling all over the place and not having everything perfect. But I’ve learned that I can change up my businesses as much as I need until I get it right for me and my clients. And I also learned that It’ll never be perfect. Things will always change and evolve and that’s ok. I don’t have to look at every mistake or fuck up as a bad thing, but a learning experience. I’m also at a place where I’m not afraid to try things in my business either. Because if I don’t try, I’ll never know. And if I fail, I can at least say I tried! But it has taken me a long time to get to this place, and I am PROUD! I have failed a lot. I have cried and questioned myself a lot, but I have never quit. Because even if I never fully accomplish all of my goals, I know that I’m living everyday purposefully, trying to get there.
My other business is U Go! Entrepreneur. U Go! Entrepreneur is a platform the encourages, supports and promotes all things business and entrepreneurship. Currently, our main thing is entrepreneurial inspired apparel. We dropped our God First Collection a few months ago and it’s been selling like hot cakes. Our Proud Collection just dropped and every item from that collection sold, will help to fund small business grants that we will be giving away. We have a variety of t-shirts and hoodies for both women and men. But I am currently working on new ways to develop the brand into something that shares more entrepreneur stories, business tips and resources, mentorship, shout outs to small businesses and can give grants to small businesses a few times throughout the year.
I created U Go! Entrepreneur because I LOVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP. And I truly believe that God has given me talents that are meant for more than just to be used sitting behind someone’s desk, building their dreams. I want to build my own dreams! I also want to a live a life where I’m not hating waking up on Mondays and only living my life on the weekends. There’s just more to life than that! And above all else, I hate alarm clocks. LOL! I want to wake up on my time. I know that sounds lazy, but I don’t mind waking up early and grinding for mine and working around the clock for my businesses. But for someone else, for someone who doesn’t really care about me and I’m just another body making your dreams come true, no. I don’t want to wake up for that. Been there, done that and it’s not for me. And I know that there are plenty of people out there like me and U Go! Entrepreneur is for them too! And every purchase that’s made from my brand helps me to spread the message and encourage entrepreneurship one shirt at a time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a huge thanks to my close friends and family for always being super supportive of my dreams. An entrepreneur’s journey is never an easy one, but with a support system like mine, I always find the strength to keep pushing. To my mom, sister, brother, friends and extended family, I love you guys. This is all for us!
