Meet Christian Flores | Licensed Clinical Social Worker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, how do you define success?
When I was younger, I would have defined success as someone who makes a lot of money and doesn’t have to worry about bills all the time. Financial freedom appeared to provide success and grant one a life of luxury, expensive trips, and birthday gifts. Whenever someone mentioned a successful person, they would list off the few millionaires and billionaires or local celebrities who have made a name for themselves. But as I got older, I realized that income and finances don’t measure or dictate success. Because even though my parents didn’t have high-paying jobs, I always thought they were successful. So I would define success as being proud of the path you’re going in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida and am providing therapy to clients through Miami Vibes Counseling Center, LLC. Honestly, I think I’ve overcome the odds and have made it this far in my professional career. All in all, it hasn’t been easy. I am the child of immigrants and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and I feel so grateful, guilty even, that I am living the life I would have wished for my mother and for the many others who didn’t get to decide what they wanted for their lives. That’s why I decided to listen to the stories of others and use the education that I was privileged enough to receive to hopefully offer support to anyone who needs it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would have to take them to the beach! I love skating near the beach so that would definitely be on the itinerary. I’d also take them to the Venetian Pool which is another great experience for water lovers. Another good spot would be the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens or the Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science. For food, we could stop by Fluffy Fluffy Desert Cafe for Japanese pancakes or El palacio de los jugos!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely want to highlight and shoutout the Latino/Hispanic community. Growing up in the United States as a first-generation American with immigrant parents has its challenges. However, being proud of where I come from, my heritage and culture, has motivated me to take advantage of the opportunities I have because so many others have made sacrifices for me to be here.
