We had the good fortune of connecting with Cuddy Rex and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cuddy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business to give myself and others a platform to be creative while having fun doing it. Cuddy Season is an entertainment company that I started in 2018. Cuddy clearly comes from my name but I created an acronym that means Creative.Universal.Diverse.Driven.Youth. This company is for me and all creatives to have a platform to express ourselves in the arts.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has a bit of range, from comedic acting in skits, stand up , I DJ, I emcee, host events, and I do interviews. Actually that range is what sets me apart for others because most creatives stay in one lane, maybe 2, but I’m swerving and cutting all through traffic haha.

One of the things I’m most excited about is during this exciting journey, I got a gig promoting music for Epic Records in New York City. During that time I would promote the new music of the labels roster in clubs and on radio. After my first year I received a plaque for helping Future’s – Mask of go 4x platinum from spins on radio and thoughtout the clubs in the city. The first of many but I would of never imagined to have my name on a platinum plaque, and I don’t even rap!!
Professionally, this all started with my radio career. I was in college and I got my first internship at 103.5 KTU as I mentoned earlier. Through networking and great relationships I was given other opportunities to do things I always wanted to do and even some things I wouldn’t of even thought of!

It definitely was not easy and it still isn’t to be completely transparent. I’m still going through challenges I never faced and obstacles I’ve never been through. I’m pretty positive the thick of it has yet to come!

I overcame obstacles by keeping faith that everything that is meant to be, will be. I also overcame obstacles by having good people around me like mentors such as DJ Suss One and legendary music producer Jovonn Alexander. When I had a few lows in my career they would call me and put me in a better place with better attitude, confidence or a better judgment and maybe even a few solutions to either fix a mistake or move on to the next opportunity.
A few lessons I learned through the game so far are, not all rules are meant to be broken haha.

I learned that it’s best to be straight and narrow because when you veer off to the left, that’s when you get in trouble haha! Mostly, what’s for you, WILL BE FOR YOU. Don’t compare anyone’s journey to your own.

What I want the world to know about Cuddy Season is, if you’re creative, it’s your season, it’s go time! That’s what it’s all about. When I created the brand it was in the fall. To me, the fall is like the 2nd New Years of the year. It’s a fresh start after the summer after all the fun to snap back into focus and get it going for the 4th quarter.

So no matter what your season is, whenever it is, its go time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Aye! This part is exciting ! I live in Jersey City, NJ. The Holland tunnel into NYC is 10 minutes away form my door. Its so much to do here and there ! First off to pop it off, we’d go to a local Jersey City sports bar/ lounge called Ringside. Ringside is famous for their 32 oz drinks. they’re SUPER strong and best part is, you can take em to go! The slap so hard, you’ll probably be drinking it for two days haha. Once we get out bevs, we’re off to the city!
I’d preferably take the train into World Trade Center, which is a 12 minute trai ride fro my local stop. We’d explore the new WTC oculus which is VERY vibey. The way the ceilings architecture is with the windows and shapes, it looks like your inside of a dragon! I’d have to also take the mall the way up to thr observatory where you havea view of the entire city, parts of Jersey and the boroughs! Now when you step outside you’re down town, in the famous TriBeCa neighborhood. We’d run around from the pier to Canal street. So much shopping, so much food, so much to do!
Thats day 1!
Through out the week, I’d take them to major attractions like The High Line, Times Square, L.E.S (Lower East Side) Dyckman, (Uptown), and Brooklyn, just to give them the different vibes around the city.
Some of my go to spots that I would take them to eat is Coppelia, which is Latin comfort food the spot is cozy, casual and a nice vibe, best part is, its 24 hours!
I’d take them to Brooklyn ChopHouse (which is actually in Manhattan).
Negril, a fire, high end Caribbean restaurant.
Maestros, Nobu, Jue Lan, Cafeteria, and Catch are some of the hottest spots to eat and we’d do it all!

Need I remind you that for years I was promoting music for Epic, and worked in radio, so I have rapport with most of the hostest DJ’s in the city AND the clubs because Id visit pretty frequently for work or to hang out with my fellow DJ friends.

I don’t even think a week is enough for the way I’d have us moving around.
And to finish of the week, we’d go to the water front in Jersey City and enjoy the view of NYC that is literally FEET away. The views and the energy is amazing!
Moral of the story, you come to NYC/ Jersey, tap in with me !!!! Haha (Seriously)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This part is like the cd’s back in the day where they had the shout out section in the booklet [haha] There are so many people that played an instrumental part of where I am.

Let’s start with God and my momma (respectfully haha)
Now to name a few, the first one would be my 8th grade music teacher [took it back]

One day Ms.Fossa pulled me out of the classroom before class even started while all us students were chatting.

She asked me if I ever thought of being on the news or radio, I said no. She told me my distinct deep voice can definitely take me places and for me to consider it. I never stopped thinking about it since. So BIG shout out to Ms.Fossa for opening my mind, pointing me into the right direction and giving me the confidence to pursue this.

Another major shout out is Wendy Wild from 103.5 KTU a New York Top 40 station. Ironically, this is the station I grew up on becuase my mom was heavy in the gym and they played all her favorite tunes that pumped her up in the 90s.
Fast forward, I follow her on Instagram, and one day she posted a picture of the boards and counsol. I commented under the picture, “Hey do you guys need any interns, I can do some serious work.” she actually commented back and left me her email. The rest is history! From there I interned, was hired and worked for a few different radio stations. Thanks Wendy !!!!

Finally, I have to shout out my boy Ferris Wheel Jay. Me and him have a 10+ year friendship and we met at a casting for the MTV reality show, The Real World. As everyone sat anxiously, nervous, and quiet, we cracked jokes and made everyone laugh and comfortable the entire day. We kept in touch thought we both took different paths in entertainment. A year ago he contacted me for a content creator collective called The Dreamers House. To be quite honest, Im doing this interview because of him! So shout out to the bro Ferris!
There are so many more to name but those are some major hitters that deserve some cred and recognition for my story.
