We had the good fortune of connecting with Denia Bent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As a young individual starting my own business, I was scared. I’m still scared when it comes to making decisions. Just recently when I went through changing the prices of my business I was afraid that I would not get any clients. However, through taking the leap and sharing to new and returning clients that my pricing model has changed, I realized that I have more power in my business then I use to allow.

Taking risk for me is about stretching myself. I find new ways to grow when I step out of my comfort zone personally and professionally. Now that I have gone through a few things in my life, I am less likely to talk myself out of making the big decisions. I don’t think the fear will go away but it’s more exciting to see how I grow now when I say yes to taking risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love what I do. I love the people that I meet. Photographing portraits of those that come to me is always a blessing because it’s more than just another snapshot of yourself. I like to think of myself as more of a documentor. Capturing the true essence of the person in front of the camera is my number one objective. I want you to feel comfortable with who you are and share a piece of yourself in that moment.

Whoever I get the opportunity to photograph I want them to look back at those images and see themselves. Truly see who they are.

My way of expressing has always been apart of me but I have come to accept my different perspective more recently as life has shown me that who I am is all that I am. I can be no one else but me and I am grateful for that. It has not been easy because I often compare myself to other creatives. It’s easy to get down when you see other’s success around you but I have to remember that this is my journey.

When people come to 14th Avenue Photography I want them to come as they are. I want them to know that who they are is enough. I want people to get comfortable in themselves and be brave to fully express themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the beach. I love to calming sensation of being in the ocean and hearing the waves hit the shore. I would take them downtown as well. There are many stores and restaurants to checkout. It also offers lots of art exhibits and shows for artists in the local area. We would visit the theater, go to Top Golf, and eat lots of amazing food. We would spend time chatting with some of my friends and have a relaxing and revitalizing time under the sun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. They understand all of my craziness and have been with me in all aspects of life. Thank you for being there always.

I would love to shoutout the beautiful strong women in my life as well that have encouraged me and provided a safe space to share my life as it is. My gather sisterhood ladies share a special place in my journey and I am so grateful to walk alongside them.

Also to my new framily of leaders who I am more than grateful for. Life as an entrepreneur is not a journey for the faint of heart. I am extremely blessed to be apart of a community to allows people like to me explore, grow, and achieve all they desire.
