We had the good fortune of connecting with Ethan Thornton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ethan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is taking the jump not knowing the outcome. Several years ago I dropped out of college to pursue my photography dreams. With very little knowledge and work. I had my mind set on doing what made me happy. As a christian I felt it was my calling as well. I then put my faith in God, trusted my gut, and put one foot in front of the other. Since that day my relationship with God grew as well as my photography. He opened up opportunities that I never imagined. From working with big influencers such as Addison Rae, Gabi Butler, Claire Stone, Carrington Durham and many more my talent grew tremendously. As time passed continuously working on my talent brands reached out such as “bikini block”, Magazines wanting to feature me (bloomxomagazine), and shooting the cover for ‘insidecheerleading”. Whatever you want in life you have to take that risk and go at it full speed. The majority of people are scared to take the risk because they’re scared of failing. Failing brings lessons to be learned. Don’t be scared of not knowing, you don’t know what’s on the other side.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of the growth I see in my work. I spend hours editing to give my client the best content possible. With every client I’ve had they’re beyond happy with the results from each and every shoot. The first month of starting photography wasn’t easy. Hours of learning the camera and hours learning editing softwares. But with time I got much better but couldn’t get collaborations or paid clients. One night I was frustrated with my business and started questioning if this is really what I wanted to do. I prayed that night desperately to God asking “if you are real, show me in my photography.” Weeks later huge collaborations and brand deals started heading my way. Since that day my Faith and trust grew in my relationship with him and I knew this is what he wanted me to do. Still today he opens up doors that still shocks me and that’s why I will always give him credit for my journey. Through this journey theres always hard times. huge competition, getting brand deals, clients, and a name for yourself. To overcome some of these obstacles I would watch YouTube videos to learn specific edits and reach out to other photographers and see how they go about things. Each time I want to quit I remember myself “If you would have quit weeks ago you wouldn’t have accomplished that goal. Continue your calling and trust God.” If I could relay a message to the world it would be to always say yes, take risks, and trust God with whatever you’re doing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sunday, they would arrive and go out for a steak dinner.
Monday, a relaxing day at the beach with restaurants lined up for the day on the Ave.
Tuesday, take the boat out to Lake boca following an evening dinner on the water.
Wednesday, a relaxing day at the beach with packed lunch.
Thursday, go out to Miami and explore the area.
Friday, take the boat out to the ocean and relax and that evening go out for dinner and a couple drinks.
Saturday, relax and go out for lunch following the evening to a home cookout.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I asked God not knowing much about him and having very little at the time to open up an opportunity to show me who he is. Weeks later I worked with the top people of my career, Gabi Butler and Addison Rae. God showed me what he wanted me to do and showed me how powerful he can be. He is the reason why I have accomplished so many great things. Following your dreams is a lonely ride. very few truly believe in your vision but, God wanted me to have the vision and has been by my side since that day.
