We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Molina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting a business was something I always thought would be interesting to do but never really knew how or where to begin. Ever since I was little I was always involved in the arts one way or another, specifically graphic design. I always dreamed of having a t-shirt line or something along those lines. So when quarantine hit in 2020 I decided to do some research on how I could bring my designs to life, working from home has really allowed me to spend more time on my designs. I knew I wanted to create funny, pop culture references where anyone could relate to them and feel almost “proud” to rock one of my items.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my small business in July 2020, I had no idea what I was doing but I knew I had to give it a try! I’ve been a graphic designer for over 3 years and creating art for over 10 years. My brand Modish the label brings cute mugs and sweaters with pop culture references. What sets Modish apart from other brands is that I make all my doodles by hand on my Ipad. Almost everything I sell is custom made and you won’t really find something similar. From a Badbunny sweater that has his face along with “yo Hago lo que me da la gana”, a Walter Mercado mug, to a sweater with Selena Quintanilla on it. Modish pieces are unique and bring a bit of personality to your everyday life. Every day I learn more about running a business, what sells, what doesn’t. It’s all been a learning experience and I am so happy I went for it and did not let fear get in between my dreams.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to my boyfriend Alexis Salmeron, without him I would have not known where to even begin my business. He was the person who pushed me to create designs and start this small business. Sometimes we need a little push to guide us in the right direction.
