We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Turn this chicken shit into chicken salad”. What I love about that quote is that, as a indie filmmaker, 90% of the time the project that you are working on is probably not going to be good. So as a director, you’re mindset should be, let me turn this piece of crap into a piece of gold. It’s a quote I use all the time. It motivates and reminds me to do the best job you can on anything you are working on.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a filmmaker for about 7 years now. during my journey, I never had much support in my art. In order to make the projects that I wanted, I had to produce them myself. It wasn’t easy because you’re wearing a bunch of hats, but it was a learning experience. As of now, I have produced 13 short films and a web-series. I was suppose to work on a feature film this year, but unfortunately due to Covid-19, I had to put that project on hold. What I want the world to about me and my story is that, I have stories to tell and I intent showcase the world my skills as a storyteller. I also want the world to know that, I never had any support in what I did, but I never gave up on my dream. I want people to see that If I can do it, so can you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wynwood. For artists that is the best place to go to.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
