We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliana Calienes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juliana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never envisioned that I would be an entrepreneur but as the saying goes, “we make plans and God laughs”. When the pandemic hit, the world was completely flipped and my professional life was no exception. I knew I could either sit around and wait to go back to my previous job or take advantage of this time and build something for myself. Miami Made Media is the culmination of my life experience and my hometown, my passion to be a creative and the environment that has shaped me. I am Miami made, the potential is limitless.

What should our readers know about your business?
Miami Made Media is a multi-faceted media company that continues to push the boundaries of our services. I started thinking I would simply manage social media accounts but I have been confronted with challenges like photography, videography, custom made gifs and even web design. I’m thrilled to be in a field where there are endless possibilities when it comes to what services you can provide and there are always more skills to learn. I pride myself on never saying “no” to new obstacles and having the determination to tackle a new expertise.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are almost too many to name. I have a new found love for Santorini by Georgio’s at the Hilton Bentley in South Beach. The authentic Greek food, friendly staff and beachfront location make it a must in South Beach. Also, anyone that comes to Miami knows they need classic cuban pastries and the only place to get the best at any hour, is Pinecrest Bakery. If I were going to hangout for Happy Hour, I’d recommend Baby Jane. From the contemporary ambience, delicious happy hour bites and the fact that they make one of the best dirty martinis in Miami. Last, I would recommend a boat day at the iconic Nixon sandbar, just off Key Biscayne. It can get pretty crazy but if you can manage a safe spot to anchor – it is one of the best days you can have in Miami admiring the skyline.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As far as support systems go, I have a village! My friends who hype me up, my sister who gives me sound advice, my brother who is my teammate, my parents who have pushed me out of my comfort zone and my boyfriend who has always believed in me. I’m lucky to be surrounded by people that have helped me have the confidence to start Miami Made Media.
