We had the good fortune of connecting with June Luxama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi June, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Other than taking the leap to work for myself I think the other factor that greatly impacted my success was knowing who to keep around in my circle of friends & associates. The saying “birds of one feather flock together” is one that I grew up on and has a lot significance/meaning to me. Growing up through high school my parents always reminded me that you’ll be as successful as the people you keep around & that doesn’t necessarily boil down to monetary success. Having folks who are as driven, hungry, passionate and willing to teach and learn from each other while enjoying life is one of the hardest yet most important decisions I had to make on this journey. You always want to keep yourself around those who steadily inspire you & keep you on your P’s & Q’s. I used to advertise being a one man army but as I progressed in the creative realm realized that sometimes that’s an equation for a burnout.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I am a multifaceted creative entrepreneur. After years of working a corporate job that I wasn’t passionate about, I felt like my creativity was deteriorating. I don’t react well to being micromanaged so I decided to take a leap of faith to manage myself in the creative space. A few of my friends & I started software development platform called Luxdigital where we essentially help small businesses get approved for credit loans. While that keeps me in touch with my engineering skills; I am also a creative director for a few clothing brands and businesses based in Miami. From directing creative shoots, managing engaging videos for social media & showcasing my eye for photography, I’ve been blessed enough to leverage my passions into a career.

Like everything worth pursuing in life the journey has been challenging. I’d say one of the biggest battles was the one within myself from imposter syndrome. What kept me afloat was my faith in God and knowing that everything happens for a reason at the right timing. Once you’re able to conquer that inner war, everything outside becomes a non factor obstacle. Everything felt like it was already written once I submitted to the idea of being selfless & creating projects that are meaningful/inspiring to others.

If there’s anything I want people to know about my story, is that a good balance of fear and faith is an equation for success. Every win and loss along this journey was a necessary learning point that allows you to adjust and pivot in the right direction.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’m a big foodie & one thing I love to do is share my cooking skills on my platform. But when I’m not home cooking, I like to enjoy some good meals & vibes with my friends. Some places I’d highly recommend trying out are spots like Dave’s Hot Chicken, Tacombi & Uptown 66 to catch a chill vibe. For dinner I’ve never been disappointed going to “Kan sushi” in Brickell or “Crazy About You” for a good dinner spot to catch a good meal & drinks.

I’m usually out and about in the Design District where a lot of shopping happens for everyone who visits. The Kith ice scream shop is a staple for me & the homies before a content shoot. I’m usually ordering their vanilla ice scream cup with the captain crunch mix in & Reeses add on (chef’s kiss).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it comes to the credit for where I’m at in life today, I couldn’t imagine it would happen without the love & support from my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, my circle of family and close friends. My parents raised me with a solid foundation of how to maneuver through life’s obstacles & that’s centered around my faith in God.

The friends I keep in my circle are all exceptionally pursuing their creative passions and endeavors as well; and the successes I see from them definitely motivates me to keep going harder at my own craft. We feed off each other & understand that everyone moves at their own pace so it never feels like a competition; but if someone is lacking we all hold each other accountable.
