We had the good fortune of connecting with Lee Torain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well as a personal trainer and personal chef my business was severely affected by the pandemic. I found myself basically out of work. Years ago I thought of starting a food truck but felt the startup costs were more than I wanted to invest . With a lot of free time on my hands,I thought about ways to diversify my income doing something that I really enjoyed. With a love for cooking, dogs and electric bikes Barkery & Brew was born! Barkery & Brew is Fort Lauderdale’s only dog treat trike serving small batch, grain free, healthy dog treats to the pups and cold brew coffee and cold brew hibiscus tea to their peeps.

What should our readers know about your business?
Barkery & Brew is Fort Lauderdale’s only dog treat trike. What sets us apart is that our treats are baked fresh, handmade and grain free. We also sell cold brew coffee and cold brew hisbiscus tea for the dog owners. We pride ourselves on selling treats that not only look great but also are good for our dogs. Most people are drawn to the trike as it’s custom design is a definite showstopper.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d start by taking them to Archibalds Village Bakery for breakfast on their patio then head to the Sebastian Beach for some fun in the sun

Then off to Las Olas Boulvard for shopping and people watching. Hop on the Water Taxi and tour the intracoastal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

There are definitely some people that without them Barkery & Brew wouldn’t be possible or at least starting it would have been a lot more frustrating and taken a lot long to get off the ground. First off, Dawn and Ben Ford, who are the owners of The Seattle Barkery. I brought them on as consultants as they are the OGs in the dog food truck world. They have several locations throughout Seattle and are constantly expanding. They really helped me navigate the business side of things regarding permits, regulations and lessons that they learned along the way. The other person who deserves a huge shoutout is my partner, Brendan. He has been invaluable in being a soundboard for ideas. Also he is indispensable on the technical side of the business. From trike repair, keg installation and cleaning. I take him a problem and he always finds a way to figure it out. And lastly, my good friend, Russell Plows.  Russell does graphic design for all of our
events and handles all of our IT. And even though he’s based in London
he has a keen eye for my design style and is able to get things done
quickly even when I need things quickly, which is often! These people deserve a lot of credit for Barkery & Brew’s success.
