We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Vitovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
You have to be crazy or a level of functioning insane to achieve any goal that is tough. You have to be crazy with passion because that drives you when things don’t go your way or are easy. Your passion is something that needs to be cultivated, developed and maintained. It is totally a fire that burns within you, and when that fire starts to burn out ….. you must question, is it worth it……. and if you pause too long then maybe it is not for you any more. For me I have set limits and small achievable goals and I have given myself a time limit to examine my career. I went from a long career in forensic pathology and many years of working with the dead and I reached the top of my profession. I stepped back and now I do it on my own terms while I put all of my passion into performance and acting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

The saying “a rolling stone never grows moss” would be the best way I would describe myself. As an actor and performer you are constantly studying, training, working or trying to get work with auditions. Every day we are faced with challenges some are easy and some are giant. What sets me apart from others is that I have reached success in a totally different profession and discovered the keys to that success. You have to know your strengths and weakness, I am not talking about what sounds good on paper to impress people but really what can you do for long hours and not want to stop. I learned in my profession of performing forensic post mortem examinations. I know how to take things apart and put them together. I apply that knowledge when it comes to acting and performance that is why there is an art to it. Each brush stroke of a painting has purpose just like each action to an actor has meaning. You must be open minded and level headed when approaching things because perspective is everything. I have true-life experiences in good and bad, I have never be shy about learning, failing or trying new things. I also have done my best to overcome any fear that I have. My brand aka myself, anyone that performs with me gets every beat of my heart and every fiber of my being in my performances; I do my utmost to leave nothing to question. In doing that I have developed and performed a wide range of characters and an even wider range of emotions because I know how to identify that within the character and access it within myself. I started filming local independent projects and have worked my way up to television appearances to cable networks to feature films. Was it easy, no, but anything worth fighting for is worth the fight. At this point, I am working toward more people knowing who I am so that I grow a demand of my brand. This will give me more opportunity to create and be who I need to be for whatever the next project is. My story is still being written, and anyone that works with me knows that for me I am driven toward success as much as I am driven to
breathe air.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami is a city with so much love and culture I would be hard pressed to squeeze everything that is amazing into one weekend. We would wake up before sunrise and welcome the morning with a Cafecito, That little coffee with a big taste and the beautiful sunrise would be the beginning to an amazing weekend. I would encourage some beach time activities on South Beach. As Miami starts to awaken, you start to really see the life and what makes it amazing but it is not until the night that you embrace her beauty. I would have lunch and most likely a few drinks in Wynwood, there is something for everyone there, You can keep is simple and light by grabbing a smoothie and a yummy sandwich from Joe and the Juice or Dr Smood to be healthy or even OOH Raw! You can scratch that itch and go to Kush or the Butcher Shop even Coyo Taco. we would walk around and check out the art and the Wynwood Walls. I would then head to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to watch the sunset. Head to visit Doral and check out the Miami Improv and Cooper Blues because the nightlife there is a great start to an evening. We could head back to South Beach for the wildness or hit any small club with live music….. That is the beauty of Miami. The food and the night life here in Miami is second to none, there are so many places to go and so many things to see. my best friend comes here and this is what we do. IF you want to get into trouble…. you can ( only the good kind that result in memories, laughter and sometimes scars) or you can take it easy and recover…. you know treat yourself right. Miami has everything.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The most important thing about any community is support, and that comes in so many ways. I wanted to give a shoutout to my family believing in me and supporting me in so many ways. I wanted shoutout to my Agent Peggi Mckinley and the BMG family in the southeast region for believing that I can be the actor that I pushing to be. I wanted to thank everyone at the Miami Improv for so much love and support. Their support is what helps me in the dark moments when I question if this path is right for me. Paying that back is so very important to keeping the community strong which means making time for younger actors, film makers and crew. From experience to collaboration, we all have the opportunity to grow and strengthen this community. I have never been shy or unable to perform a role for someone that is passionate about making films as much as I am. We just need someone to believe in us and that gives us the freedom to develop the skills needed to be a success, at anything.
