We had the good fortune of connecting with Micol Guida and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Micol, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One of the most important factors behind the success of my company, Over the Top Test Prep & Tutoring, is that I tried to differentiate my business from all the other tutoring companies, by offering a more “tailored” approach to tutoring. My team is made up exclusively of highly educated and professional women, most of whom are also mothers. Classes are held in my home office, and I make sure students feel at home by creating a friendly environment. This allows us to offer a more maternal approach to tutoring. Since I am fluent in Spanish, Italian, and French, many of my clients are Hispanic or European. My international background, along with my work experience in the United States, is very useful in assisting families who are not at all familiar with the American educational system, and who often do not speak English. Every session is designed to meet the students’ specific needs. We work with students of all ages, from elementary to college, different nationalities, and with learning disabilities. Parent involvement is also key to the success of the student, therefore I make sure we provide weekly feedback on progress. We care, we connect, we compliment and we communicate. These are all crucial to our success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Over the Top Test Prep & Tutoring, offers a variety of services including subject tutoring for different grade levels, test prep for college admission or scholarships, college guidance, and translations. What sets us apart from others is our “tailored” approach to tutoring, professionalism, and expertise. I was able to get to where I am today thanks to the support of my family, my education, and my international upbringing. Starting a business is always very challenging because you can’t predict your success, but I have learned that courage and hard work always pay off.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I would show off my hometown, Boca Raton. I would take my friend to Red Reef Park at the beach, the Town Center mall, the Boca Raton museum, and the best restaurants in town. I would also visit Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Last but not least, I would like my friend to experience an airboat adventure in the Everglades.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am without the support of my parents. My upbringing and education are crucial to my success, however, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. He was the one who encouraged me to start my own business. I may not have embarked on this path had it not been for his trust, faith, and support.
