Today we’re excited to be connecting with Miguel Yurrita again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Miguel, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
My name is Miguel Yurrita, I use the pen name MNVZ if I’m feeling zesty. I’m a Miami-based cartoonist and sequential artist.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Since we last spoke, I’ve put out a new comic called The Void: Tales From the Subconscious! Shout out to the Ellies and Oolite Arts; not only did they help with a grant to fund it, but they also gave me complete creative control. The support they gave really pushed me to swing for the fences on this one. Now I’m just excited to see if it’s a hit or a miss with readers. I put it up for free on my IG but it’s formatted all weird because of the way posts are layed out there. I’ll also put it up on my site soon too, but I’d suggest reaching out and buying the comic until then. Full disclosure: I’m biased w that suggestion.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.

Favorite Movie: ’ve been rewatching David Lynch’s filmography lately because of his passing, and it’s between Blue Velvet and the Elephant Man for me at the moment. These types of answers are constantly changing for me.

Favorite Book: I recently finished reading Al Colombia’s Doghead which, coincidentally, can be described as Lynchian. As far as book-books go, right now it’s G.K. Chesterton’s The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare.

Favorite TV Show: I just finished Superman & Lois and it’s got to be my favorite of the CW/DC shows. The Flash is a solid runner-up, but they lost me around the third season, whereas Superman & Lois kept me interested to the end on Superman.

Favorite Band or Artist: I’ve got Chat Pile, Fleshwater and Title Fight on heavy rotation right now.

Sweet or Savory: At the moment of writing this, I’d say sweet, but this can and will change moment to moment.

Mountains or Beach: As a Miami boy, I’d say beach, but only because that’s what I know. The parking for the beach is bad enough that if I knew any mountains like that, I’d say mountains.

Favorite Sport (to watch): Skateboarding, but like skate videos more than live competitions.

Favorite Sport (to play): Cornhole. I’m not good at it, but it’s fun and deserves more shine.

Did you play sports growing up (if so which ones): I used to skate when I was younger but never got past ollies and shove-its.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: Even as a kid, I’ve always wanted to make comics. Not even trying to be the next Jack Kirby or anything crazy, I just like drawing stories and want to do that all the time.

French Fries or Onion Rings: French fries are the go-to choice, but if a place has some good-looking rings, I’m going to try them.

Chuck Rhodes or Bobby Axelrod: I have no idea who those people are.

Favorite Cartoon growing up: Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men would’ve been my favorites until Toonami got me into DBZ and Sailor Moon.

Favorite Childhood movie: Grease, The Pagemaster and Robocop. Also all the classic animated Disney movies. We had a lot of VHS tapes back in the day.

Favorite Breakfast Food: Cereal if I’m actually hungry and waffles if I’m just eating to eat breakfast.

What are you most excited about in the coming year?
I’m most excited about just doodling and drawing for fun for a bit now that I’m done with the comic. Might make a second issue or something new altogether. Just excited to see what happens really! Thanks for the questions!
