We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia & Joel Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalia & Joel, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over time as business owners, priorities change from normal work or hustle to dedicating yourself to creating something bigger out of your business. For us, we really dedicated ourselves to some big changes around May of 2021. Natalia worked full time for a magazine from 10 am to 6 pm; to her home office to stay up late shooting or editing images for clients. Eventually it became too draining to keep up with such a rough schedule along with life outside of work. She had to make a change and talked to her boss about switching her schedule and thankfully he agreed to her terms and trusted her enough to do her job remotely. With this, she was able to balance out her business but also have a full time job. For Joel, being a young entrepreneur had been a journey he started as a teen. Time has always been demonstrated to him as valuable to make the most out of everyday. Only now, he is a young adult working more hours than most but with adult responsibilities. Working part time with his father, aiding him in his businesses the most that he can, meanwhile growing his own to something spectacular. He understands the sacrifices he must make in order to achieve his personal and business goals. Time in life or business is not the same everyday, but you must be prepared for any type of day that comes your way.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Before we became Miami Lights Studio we were Miami Lights Photography as we were only offering photo services at the time. But once Joel became part of the company we know we wanted to grow into something bigger. With the dedication and tools we had we made the most of it and got right into work and made the changes we thought were necessary to grow the company. We both have always been pretty business savvy so it was just a matter of putting that knowledge into practice with our own company. It was definitely challenging as there were many elements that were still in the dark but just had to figure out along the way. Overcoming them was just the matter of getting advice from someone who might know and riding it out from there; we had to throw ourselves into the ring and do our thing. We definitely learned a lot about business banking and getting all the right paper work done in order to have an established business. What we would like for people to take away from our story is that with determination and thinking outside the box will take you a long way. Also to enjoy the process because even if it doesn’t succeed as fast as you want it to, every minor accomplishment is still one to celebrate.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our favorite spots to take out of towners are definitely Wynwood and Downtown/Brickell area. The food and vibes in both areas are just so unique and we feel gives you the best Miami experience. In Wynwood there are small spots like La Latina and Miam Cafe which are total opposites when it comes to food but both are great experiences. Also the nightlife in Wynwood is much more laid back and chill compared to Brickell where you have to dress up a bit more but we love the contrast. Another favorite spot of ours in Wynwood is La Gniappe. The build your own cheese board along with their selection of beer and wine is amazing. For Brickell we love American Social, Black Bird Ordinary, and Barsecco. All have an amazing nightlife vibe and get really packed. Best part is that everything is close together so it’s easy to club hop. It is very common for bar crawls to be held in this area. We recently came across a new bar in this same area called Rosa Sky Rooftop which has to most beautiful views of Brickell with unique cocktails and bites.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
During their journey as entrepreneurs, Natalia and Joel have been blessed with many motivating and heartwarming people that truly care for them and their business. They support strongly through social media @miamilightstudio on Instagram and Facebook! From friends to family, they have all seen the true growth of MLS. Natalia and Joel are always thankful for two people that have been their since the beginning of it all, mom and dad. Their mother has always influenced them to be creative. From coloring to watching all types of movies and shows. She would take them sightseeing around Miami to see all the beautiful lights and colors the amazing city has to offer. On the other hand, their dad has been a hardworking business owner since Natalia was 2. Growing up with a role model that wakes up early, gets everything done and more, has influenced Natalia and Joel to be dedicated to their craft, along with to their business growth, He has taught them to never give up, reach for their goals, and to always be professional.
