We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Mousseau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
That the power to have anything you desire is inside of YOU! Only you know the dreams and capabilities you have and if you keep pushing forward and push past the fear of uncertainty, you can reach the stars. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows even if social media splashes that across your pages. It’s hard work, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. for every business owner! It’s connecting with new people and putting yourself outside of your comfort zone. I’ve learned that not everyone wants you to succeed and the best thing to do is listen to advice but not always take it. You are in control and when you realize your worth, everything shifts. I’ve also learned to always be humble and kind even when clients are asking for discount after dicsount. It doesn’t mean you have to give it but you can nicely explain why you’re worth the rates your charging. Some will appreciate it and others will not. Move on, you can’t please everyone. Don’t let a client take your kindness for weakness. You want to feel an accoplishment at the end of the day and not feel like you’ve just worked for nothing so know your worth and charge accordingly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve loved the beauty world since I was young. I’m so inspired by fashion and different cultures and now being able to travel and style my brides in beautiful resorts and retreats is something so amazing. I started off traveling between a 3 hour span in Eastern Canada to style my brides at thier homes for very little money but I loved the people I got to meet and the places I got to see. I did this for 3 years and then moved to South Florida ten years ago where I started my business again from scratch. Since then I’ve met and worked with countless exceptional artists, collaborators, business owners and inspiring women. What I’m most excited about though is this past year. Right before Corona hit we opened a beautiful new beauty lounge in Boynton Beach. It’s a magical haven for our brides where they can have a glass of champagne, relax and enjoy their hair and makeup consultation while being pampered. I also launched a bridal accessory line which is flourishing.and available for purchase at our lounge and online. This has been my baby and I’m excited to see how it grows. Our next launch will be getting our accessories on Amazon! I feel we have so much to do and so much more growth coming but I am also trying to stop and celebrate the little accomplishments each day. I find you get stuck always trying to grow and do more that you let successes slip by without acknowledging them. As an artist/business owner you’re always looking to the next project but sometimes we need to stop and smell the roses. We’re working on that 😉
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
AH this is fun! We would wake up and go to the Eau Palm Beach (Manalapan, FL) for their Sunday brunch whish is amazing and filled with gourmet food, treats and mimosas. We’d hang poolside for the afternoon, listening to good music and cahtting up other guests. We’d head to downtown Delray for dinner and drinks …City Oyster is one of my favorite restaurants where the bartenders have given us a quick whiskey tasting and explained how it’s made. We’d order a few apps there and then hit up Buddah Sky Bar for sushi and their Lavender Yumi martini. Their Handsome Rob sushi roll isn’t on the menu but it’s a must try! We’d spend the rest of the night dancing in and out of the little bars that line the Ave, maybe stopping at the Colony Palm Beach to check out their piano bar. We’d definitely go to Miami and spend the day at one of the hotel spas. Our afternoons would be filled with beach days, sun tanning, shopping different boutiques and jumping on a boat that will take us everywhere and anywhere. We’d probably head to the Florida Keys after that to soak up some local eats and paddle around the crystal clear waters.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Brett is a huge supporter and team player. I’m blessed to have someone who not only supports my dreams but also jumps in to help anytime I need him. I travel a lot for my brides and he is either with me or holding up the house.
