We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernanda Bressan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fernanda, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I have learned that work-life balance is a myth. I prefer to call it work-life alignment. Things will never be fully balanced. There are times we need to be more focused and intentional on our business, other times on our lives, relationships and family. To believe there will be balance sets us up for frustration or failure. I prefer to set myself up for success by identifying what areas of my life and business need my attention and when. In doing this, I am able to minimize guilt or other negative emotions around what I am not doing and instead focus on what I am accomplishing and why it matters. Additionally, I have learned to practice self-care and reflection regularly. By making choices (yes, we get to choose and decide!) about when I will dedicate time to myself, I am able to show up more energized and fully for all those I interact with, from my daughter, to my husband to my clients. I didn’t always understand the importance of this alignment. It was not until it took a toll on my health and wellness and I was forced to make a change, that I became so aware and mindful of my choices and decisions. Since then, I have made it a mission to support others in identifying where they need to make shifts to create more alignment personally and professionally. It has also helped me with being a calmer parent (usually) and a more impactful Executive Life + Business Coach.
What should our readers know about your business?
My entrepreneurial journey, including my successes and failures has helped me get to where I am today. I saw each challenge and experience as an opportunity for learning and growth. The experiences and understanding they’ve brought me are what set me apart in my Coaching today. I have worn many hats, from founder to employee, entrepreneur to partner in both small and large organizations. Giving me perspective and allowing me to empathize and support others today. I live by the mantra “things happen FOR us not TO us” and it reminds me that at every crossroad or uncertain moment, I am on the right path on my own journey. The result of which, is getting to see the impact my work has individuals, organizations and teams. By being authentic and vulnerable, sharing my own stories and struggles, I am able to create trusting safe spaces for others to explore and shift into their most authentic and fulfilled selves.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My suggestions when people visit depends on what they are looking for or wanting to experience. The diversity and options are vast, so understanding people’s wants is crucial. Some of my favorite suggestions are exploring different areas from South Beach’s deco architecture, to Wynwood’s art and vibe, to the luxury shopping in the Design District and Bal Harbour to the local restaurants and bars downtown, little Havana and Brickell. One of my favorites is Niu Kitchen. A little hidden gem in Downtown Miami, or Arson by the same team. I also would recommend Kyu in Wynwood and Mandolin in Buena Vista. For a low key local experience, I’d suggest lunch at the Argentinian Fiorito. A night out would not be complete without exploring the Faena District and having drinks and dinner at Francis Mallman’s Los Fuegos. An afternoon exploring places like Viscaya Museum & Gardens and the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables is a great way to learn about Miami history and see more of our unique architecture and beautiful locations.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to Lisa DeNarvaez, @https://blisspoint.co/, who always believed in me and supported me in dreaming big and working towards my desires. Her love, understanding and resources helped me grow and become the most authentic version of myself both personally and professionally.
