We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Canut and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, how do you think about risk?
Everything in life is risk. There are no guarantees in life ever. Many people go through life not thinking about that much. That’s why in my opinion sometimes, they are often shocked by the consequences of their actions or in many cases, their inaction. No matter what you do in life, there is always the risk of the unknown for everyone. Once aware of this notion, that there really is no safe alternative, you can pursue life with more courage. I think people who begin their own business understand these concepts, take additional risk, many times fail, but, if they succeed, the reward is so much greater not only profit wise but, intrinsically.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My band is Midnight Kahuna. I am the lead songwriter, performer, and producer of the music and merchandise that makes up our brand. Our music is real and rooted in the story telling narrative. I approach every song as a story ready to be told. For me and I imagine for most of my fans, it is the interweaving of the words and the music that set the tone of the story. I think this element is missing from the majority of songs on mainstream radio today. I think this is a big reason why my music resonates well with our fans who are looking for an alternative to the shallowness of pop songs and pop culture today. I am proud of the work that we do from the songs, to the music videos, to the T shirts and other merchandise we’ve created. It has been the passion of my life for the last thirty years. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy to achieve but as the old saying goes, with hard work and perseverance, you can get what you are after eventually.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I credit my success first and foremost to God. My faith is my anchor and is deeply rooted in Catholic Tradition. My family is next. My wife and children are my biggest motivators and my greatest inspiration. My work ethic is derived from my parents. My entrepreneurial spirit is derived from my father in law who was like a second father to me and taught me the magic of being my own boss. Last but not least, I credit the American spirit of freedom handed down by our fore fathers and represented most recently by our dear and beloved President Trump. Freedom gives you courage to take bigger risks. I hope we never lose that as a populace.
