We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Gerstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had two small children and was involved with the PTA at their elementary school….first as VP of fundraising and then as President. After my tenure as President was over, I found myself with much more time on my hands, as well as a desire to contribute financially to my family. My neighbor had a Professional Organizing Business and one day when we were chatting she offered me an opportunity to assist her on some of her larger projects. I had not realized that my tidying and organizing skills might possibly help others! Plus, I still had flexibility of my time and found a purpose outside of my home and family. I assisted my neighbor for several years and then decided it was time to branch out on my own. With her full support (she even turned over a client or two to me!), Sandy Organizes You was born. As my family’s needs, and my own needs have changed, I have been able to grow and add services to my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sandy Organizes You (SOY for short), offers an incredibly wide range of services. Our breadth of work might be to:
Help someone clean out a garage or a closet…
Assist someone in booking a mover, painter, landscaper or even securing a storage unit…
Purge and pack for a move…
Unpack when someone moves into a new home…
Drop donations off…Purge a linen closet and then take the old towels to an animal shelter…
Set up a kitchen…
Arrange a floor plan for furniture placement…
Work with an attorney or children of someone who has passed in liquidating their home…
Ship furniture or family heirlooms across the country…
Pick up or drop a client at the airport…
Grocery shop for a client…
Run errands for a client…
Wait for deliveries for a client…
Help a client organize a home office…
Assist a teenager in packing their room for a move…
Pack a child’s camp trunk…
Pack a young adult headed to college…Computer and iphone/ipad trouble shooting…
Assist client’s with paperwork…
Set up recycling systems in client’s homes or offices…
Pack and move an accounting office to temporary space during a redecoration, then unpack it all after they move back into their newly renovated space.

Every day we have the opportunity to help our clients in ways that will help them clear their minds and create the space, both mentally and physically, to live their best lives!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A visit to South Florida wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach! We might play it low-key and go to the beach in Delray, then walk the Avenue and possibly grab some sushi at Lemongrass and ice-cream at Kilwins. Another option might be to head south towards Coral Gables and hit the quiet beach just before the causeway headed to Key Biscayne. Then for a drink or two at the Rusty Pelican! We would take a ride down to Wynwood and explore the streets and eat wherever the food looks enticing and the crowd has good energy. If the Miami Hurricanes were in town, we would catch a football game starting with an all-out tailgate at Hard Rock Stadium. Speaking of Hard Rock…we might do a little bit of gambling or check out a show. We also might venture to the BB&T Center or to the American Airlines Arena to catch a Panthers or Heat game, or attend a concert. There is so much live music around and live theater as well from Miami all the way up to West Palm Beach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will take this opportunity to thank my husband, Rob, and our children, Emily and Matthew. In their own unique ways, each of them have encouraged and supported me through the past decade as I’ve forged this path and built my own business. They are on board when I have had to work weekends or evenings, often cooking dinner when I would get home late. They tolerate all my organizing and packing supplies taking up space in the garage and they indulge me when I take out the label maker. They help with my marketing strategies and proof articles and interviews for me. My son Matthew now works with me, which is incredibly special!
