We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Raw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Deciding to: – be tenacious and to keep going no matter how hard it gets – to start before I am ready – let haters hate – invest in people, places, ideas, and things that nourish me
What should our readers know about your business?
I think the things that I am most proud of (and ultimately the best suited for) are the things that took on a life of their own, such as starting my first business, Midtown Digital Media. It’s not something I ever imagined myself being, a stand alone business owner/service provider. After all, I had no clue what I was doing lol! I had been in the medical marketing and management industry for over a decade and then decided I would open my own agency and explore other industries to provide service for. I was biking to Buro, a coworking space where I saw clients at, that later became an all consuming passion for bikes – I had no idea how this would impact my life at that time. Fast forward a few years – that passion for bikes just kept growing (along with my social media following) and I become an ambassador for several national and global brands, such as Bianchi, DT Swiss and Garmin. I then became the marketing manager at JBI, the nation’s leading bicycle components distributor and I continue to learn more and more about the industry. During the pandemic, I decided to start another small company called Get Lifted Media that is dedicated to helping athletes become stand alone brands so they can earn income doing what they love most. I created my first online course specifically designed for amatuer athelete’s who want to secure their first paid sponsorship leveraging their social media. I am currently working on creating a learning platform for athletes called the #SelfMade Business Lounge – it’s for athletes who want to start their own business – whether that’s coaching or getting into selling products, I have done the legwork on both and want to save them the headache of piecing together endless articles and Youtube videos trying to launch their business. I teach everything from filing for your business license and Tax ID all the way to creating funnels and automations and executing evergreen social media strategy and running ads – all designed specifically with the modern athlete in mind.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bike ride and/or run via Key Biscayne – this is where I take all of my cycling friends that come to visit Rice Kitchen Edgewater – my buddy Esi owns this place and it’s THE BEST place for post ride/run healthy eats Yummies at Caja Caliente – outdoor seating and perfect to bike to Stroll through Wynwood + Design District – shopping/dining Beaches by 36th street – so serene if you go first thing in the morning (shhhh!)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dedicated to the amazing folks in my life that always inspire, support, love and motivate me – even when I just want to be my aquarius self and be left alone and do it on my own lol. – My mother, the original rebel – Tanya Marie (celebrity stylist) for trusting me to design her ecommerce webiste (and being my first client when I first started my marketing agency) – Claudia Aros (owner of Bagua Center, healer) – for teaching me how to have compassion – Janice Kang – forever bestie + for taking me on the adventure of my life! – Tanya Nagel (equestrian, stable owner) – being the first woman in my life to show me what entrepreunership way before it was cool (I’m talking the early 90’s) – Paula Purpera (PA, founder of Worthy Goods) – for her joy + ability to see the light in all things – Kevin, Adrian, Jeremiah, Vincent – for restoring my faith in man kind =P
