We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Roca-Valledor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, how does your business help the community?
Our inspirations behind our business helps the community because It’s all about having people take our music and make it their own. Our fans relate to our art and they listen to Soul Hazel when they are going through though times. This journey has allowed us to play many benefit shows for the community including two shows to raise money for cancer, as well as another show to stand up for a safe music scene and raise money for sexual assault survivors. We also have fans that listen to our music from all around the world and contact us through social media to express how our music has helped them beyond just listening.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Soul Hazel has a very specific sound that is more than your ordinary bedroom pop. With a voice that combines Amy Winehouse and Billie Eilish, this is a band of only two members and we’ve performed multiple times around Miami. A lot of doors have opened for us because our exposure has gotten us more gigs and events. It wasn’t always easy but we’ve built our following throughout the three years that we’ve been making music. This journey has thought me to be consistent with our fans and we’ve learned how to manage our brand hands on, as well as recording good quality music. We want people to know who we are and join the Soul Hazel journey with us.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wynwood is a home for the arts around Miami and we’ve played a very important show there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
