We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Calleja and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sergio, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to view balance as a daily activity where I tried to make everything work at same time. Now I view balance the same way a farmer views the agricultural cycle. He must first plant the seeds & water them before he can harvest. The same applies in business, you must invest a 5-10 years into different areas of your life to develop them , so you can later reap the rewards of having a successful business, relationships, health, and happiness.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our core mission is to change the contracting industry in South Florida who has gotten a bad reputation due to so many unethical people cutting corners and not keeping their word. We are doing this one customer at a time. What excites me the most is when a customer initially does not trust us but after seeing us deliver on everything we promise, the once again have faith that good exists in the world.
If I am honest everyday is a challenge. When you hold yourself to such a high standard like we do here, you are always finding areas to improve on and whenever we do not deliver on that, it is a true frustration. Our desire for excellence means that good, is not good enough. As you can imagine this is a lot of pressure daily but we are happy to do it because it means we are on the right path.
The most important thing I would want the world to know about our brand is that we are a family, that wants to take care of your family. We understand that everyone works hard for their money so when they choose to work with us, it is a big deal to us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was visiting Miami, the first thing I would take them is to La Carreta to have some of the best Cuban food. Then I would take them to them to Wynwood so they can check out the amazing art work on the walls. After that I would take them by Miami-Beach so they can see the historic ocean drive that is full of so much history. In the evening I would take them to a place that not many locals know about, Russian and Turkish baths in Miami-Beach. This is a spa with multiple heat rooms and cold plunges that you spend time with friends talking and relaxing the body.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The success of our business comes down to the solid foundation established by my father Sergio Sr. When he first started the business he wanted it to operate as an extension of who he was. This meant that all the decisions and actions were guided by core values like Integrity, Do the right thing, Go the Extra Mile, Initiative, Humility and Always be Learning. This is how we still do business today and sets us apart from everyone else who is trying to make a quick sale. I am honored to continue growing the business that my dad worked so hard to build over the last 24 years.
