We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayla Benoit and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shayla, how do you think about risk?
I was putting together a video for the Tony Awards, and my co-director and producer had a connection to an Academy Award winning actor. When he suggested we ask this actor if he would be in our film, I admittedly thought it was out of our reach. We decided that it couldn’t hurt to just ask, and to our joy and surprise, he said yes!
This was a huge lesson for me. I learned to not be afraid to fail, and to make the ask and take the risk. I don’t believe in living with regret, so I now make it a habit to pursue what many may think is impossible. The worst that can happen is someone says no. That’s just more research on what you’re meant to do next. Best case scenario, you get one step closer to a goal or a dream.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the President and Founder of Shady Theatrics LLC. We are a film production company that works with a myriad of clients in both the corporate and arts communities. My background is in theatre, so I bring my unique style of story-telling to each film I create. I love to work with my clients to help find their voice and what sets them apart.
We direct, produce, write, choreograph, film, and edit your project, so we are a one stop shop. I love that we are constantly meeting new clients and learning more about their art and businesses. It makes every day unique and interesting. I split my time between New York City and West Palm Beach, so I love getting to travel to meet my clients.
We pride ourselves on efficiently capturing the personal experience offered in every event and project, while adding our own style to each film.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My family loves to go to Jetty’s. We get there early to get a seat by the water and watch the sunset with the picturesque Jupiter Lighthouse in the background.
Whenever I have downtime, you will find me at Loggerhead Beach with a book in my hand. There’s nothing better.
I also love to catch a show at The Maltz Jupiter Theatre. I’ve been fortunate to work there a few times as an actor, and the production quality is top notch!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I grew up in an incredible arts community. I began my training at ArtStage Performing Arts Center in Jupiter, Florida. We were encouraged to try everything and to learn about every aspect of the performing arts and production. This gave me the foundation I needed to continue my education as a dance major at Bak Middle School of the Arts and a theatre major at Dreyfoos School of the Arts. These three organizations were fundamental in shaping the person and artist I am today. They gave me a community of people that are still my closest friends and mentors. I am so grateful for these incredible schools and the impact they have had on my life.
