We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiomar Drummond and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiomar, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my own business after being placed on child support. I have lost all of my assets, and eventually got evicted from my apartment. Life quickly became a daily struggle. At the time I applied for a part time position at the City of Miramar and collected a net pay of $0.00 on my first three checks due to back up child support. I knew I couldn’t survive this way ,so I eventually applied for a full time position and got it! During this time , I met Matthew Bass and Leslie Bell SR who quickly became my work dads. Matthew, and Leslie mold me into a craftsman and taught me everything from drywall, painting.plumbing etc… After sharing my financial struggle with Matthew he told me how I could do all of this for people on my own time and get paid. This is all I needed to hear. I went home and immediately starting working on creating my business now known as Drummond Home Renovations. I created an Instagram and started promoting myself and capabilities into the home renovations business. Little by little jobs came in, I even started getting contracts. This where things started.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
DHR specializes in home remodeling and repairs. I am very reliable and affordable. I take each project very serious because I am passionate in what I do. I don’t come just to do a job, I like to relate to each one of my clients, and give private consultations on what may work best for their needs based on my professional knowledge. I am creating a change, which is always exiting for me! I have worked for several local celebrities, I have also done some unique projects that helped set the bar for DHR. At this time, I am very pleased as to where my business is heading. DHR has been really busy with new projects, and is always welcoming more. Some days I wish days had more hours to fit my working schedule. DHR has been to four countries and many states. Until this day, I still like to think i’m just getting started.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spots in the city are my front yard with a cup of white rum while watching my kids play , a day spent on the water on a boat, go fishing in the keys , a good chill spot with some good food and music, last but not least visit my mother house.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to Andre Reid, Brett Phangsang to whom I consider mentors. Julie Grenon for all the love, support and encouragement. My kids and family for the daily motivation, and everybody who has always been supporting my business in any kind of way. Biggest shoutout to all of my clients who have put their trust in my hands into their home renovations journeys.
