We had the good fortune of connecting with T’Keyah D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi T’Keyah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are multiple important factors behind having success (periodt). Above all, the most important thing is to believe in yourself! Secondly, show appreciation for the smallest amount of support from loved ones and even the people you barely know. I truly believe that when your mind is made up, set on your goals, and you believe in your own mission, you can do anything! Other important factors? Prioritize your finances towards your goals. Whether it be education, start up supplies, certain types of technology, things you can use to keep organized…set aside some cash-flow to invest in your dream. Lastly, walk the walk, you can only “fake it till you make it” for so long (lol). Embody the very thing you represent, be your own brand! Be integral in your mission and keep pushing forward. You will do amazing things!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a commitment to the betterment of people. Through my line of work, I specifically help people improve their health and lives through the food they eat. This involves coaching, mentoring, counseling, and increasing access to healthy foods. My ultimate goal is to help as many people realize how important it is to invest in their health and to help communities achieve good health. Whenever I have the opportunity to change or improve the perspective on health and nutrition, for the betterment of one self or the community, I take that opportunity! It’s that extra step through leadership that is impactful enough to generate more lasting change!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in town will always involve food! Check out Vegan Fine Foods in Fort Lauderdale and Full Bloom Gourmet in Miami Beach. I love the many Farmer’s Markets found throughout South Florida – it’s a must visit when friends are in town. You can never go wrong with multiple beach visits, with fresh coconut water, a little bit of yoga, volleyball and maybe a beach run! Miami is definitely known for its night life, and a few nights in VIP will grant you a great time, but walking into a free space with blasting music and everyone dancing is just as fun!! Go sightseeing on a boat tour, go snorkeling. Miami is best known for the Arts: visit Wynwood or a local art museum! I have had some thrilling experiences skydiving and a trip to the everglades! End your vacation with a rooftop Sunday brunch! I would encourage visitors to explore areas that are more residential to get a feel for the locals, meet new people and find out about important things happening in the city. There is a really great mission happening in Overtown Miami, a non-profit organization I am apart of called The Green Haven Project (GHP). GHP is located at a beautiful urban garden offering fresh locally grown foods to residents who would otherwise have little access to healthy foods!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Special shoutouts to: The most high, my family, Olivia, Thamara, Monette, Kristen, Chinedu Okoro (CEO), Garry Louima (Business Lawyer), Omari, Vegan Fine Foods, Uncle Leroy, Karl, The Balfour Family, Michelle Obama, my mastermind group, The Greenprint, & anyone who has invested positive energy and supports me!
