We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyrone Chatman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyrone, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of our business revolves around quality, expectations customers can rely on, environmentally conscious practices and the passion that we have for what we do. We are sailors by heart and love what we do. We want the same for our customers and their passions.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business is a Marine Mechanical, Electrical and Stabilization service. We focus on yacht Lithium Iron battery conversions, solar panel installations, off grid sustainability. Generator installation and service. Marine electrical systems and marine mechanical systems. We service and install marine gyroscopic stabilizers and an active auto trim/list stabilizers.
When my long time friend and now business partner, Steve Foote, aprroached me about starting a marine service business. The answer was clear and we hit the ground running, building on it ever since. Starting in a small closet space with three partners working. (Steve, Ben and Myself) To now, operating out of 1,500 SQ FT, dock space and employees. We are still growing while keeping a close eye on the quality that we provide to our customers. We are proud to service the southern Florida Keys and provide mariners with a quality shop to do business with. We pride ourselves on quality and our reputation. We stand behind our work, no matter the cost and ensure pure customer satisfaction.
I have been in the industry for 15 years and I am passionate about what I do. I always enjoyed mechanics and sailing/boating. It was a natural progression to get into the marine technical field. It wasn’t always easy but it always provided growth and experience.
We all make mistakes, we learn from those and move forward as a stronger, better person. With the goal to not repeat the same mistakes. In school, a quote from my favorite teacher. “Never chase money, be fair and do quality work, the money will follow.” I have lived by this principal and it has worked out very well for me. There have always been lessons, you take them and move forward to continually improve your quality and product.
What I want the world to know is that there is a solution and a way forward for each and every one of us, no matter the difficulties or challenges we face. We just have to keep moving forward and solving one problem at a time. If something is too hard, your likely not doing it right.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends visit, there are no shortages of experinces to have in the Florida Keys. The most popular for my family and friends tend to be surrounding the water. We either go diving, snorkeling, relaxing on a sand bar or beach. Take tours of the islands and explore their history. Evenings are lively with good times at many of our local watering holes and restaurants but the best is to sit back and relax with friends around a BBQ. Down here it is all about being in the sun, on the water and good times with friends in the evenings.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and the experiences they gave me as a child are a direct correlation to who I am today. Without that first sailing experience at the age of 6. Thank you mom and dad for allowing me to become the person I am today. Thank you little sis for having faith in the gadgets I built. Thank you to all my family and friends that have supported me throughout life and always encouraged good morals and ethical boundaries.
