We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Lazarou and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Our only way to grow is to take risks. In the beginning, it is difficult to understand and believe the abilities that we develop as humans when we take risks. Stepping into the unknown brings us to places that we never would have thought of. Taking risks and chances is probably one of the best things that we can do in order to grow. When we do not allow ourselves to take the risk, we are unable to grow into exponential growth. Taking risks has played a vital part in my life/career. I never would have thought that I would be here today until I subconsciously took risky baby steps to get here. Most days, we still don’t know but what I do know, in hindsight, is that if I never took risks, I would have never found success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have two creative missions. Sometimes I struggle whether to call them businesses or not. I have a branding studio that focuses on creating hand-crafted designs that are then translated to digital. Focusing mainly on lifestyle brands and bringing brands to life. We are a one-for-one concept with time. What does that mean? Unlike a traditional creative agency, for every hour of service, we donate one hour of service to helping mom-and-pop organizations overseas in developing societies create awareness for their selfless work. This idea was founded with a heart that beats to help people, help people. Find out more at www.mayseastudio.com It was not easy to get here, coming from a very traditional marketing background, I had this idea that I still wanted to stay in the industry but transform it in a way that was a bit more ethical and sustainable. Which is why I started the studio. For the first 3 years, the challenges were trying to explain the idea of sustainable creativity to some people. How working with us is different than other creative agencies because we are giving back time and we value that. On the other hand, I started a non-profit organization working with rural jungle communities, creating access to opportunity and empowering both children and parents to work. We learn a lot from developing rural communities. We learn how to survive with minimal belongings. www.mayseamovement.com
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would hang out at the beach, go surfing, go for long walks on the beach, stay home to cook after a day in the sun, drink too much good wine, and belly laugh from the heart. We would adventure down dirt roads in search of deserted areas to soak up some sunshine and serenity.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother and my brother for allowing me the space to believe, run with it, and still care + love along the way.
