Persevere or Pivot?

To persevere or to pivot is a question that do-ers have been asking themselves since the beginning of time. It’s never a straight road when you are doing something new, blazing a trail, breaking a ceiling, or pushing boundaries, so it’s only natural to wonder whether to give up midway. How do you know whether to keep going or to give up?

Running a business comes with so many joys, blessings, and beautiful moments, but it also comes with so many challenges, hardships, confusion and ultimately getting to a place where you feel like just giving up is the only solution. I have had my fair share of times where I wanted to give up, and I don’t blame myself for feeling this way. This feeling often came after having sever burn out after doing way “too much”. This is such a great question, as I’ve been on the “to give up or not to give up” line many, many times over the course of my career. First, I think you have to gut check yourself and ask, “Do I still have the passion and drive to make it through this challenge?” Sometimes you do and sometimes you don’t. If the passion for your business is gone, then overcoming whatever problems are in front of you is going to be 10x more difficult. I used to give up on things so easily growing up. As soon as a task or a goal became difficult I would quit. Playing sports as a teenager was the first time I saw how much simply showing up every day to put in the work eventually compounds until you get faster and stronger. When I was done with school and sports I needed something else to apply this energy to. That’s when I rediscovered art. I began practicing everyday, the same way I did with sports, and watched myself grow year after year. Read more>>

There is a famous saying where I am from, I am sure many Hispanics have heard this before, “para atras ni para tomar impulse”, it means “don’t take a step back not even for momentum” If you have a dream that is big enough, make it into a reality and don’t anything or anyone hold you from it. Knowing when your happiness is present or has stopped participating in this so-called game is something I will always stand by. Goals and dreams are such an incredible duo to have and strive towards and provide us with a direction to follow in life. We are in this constant reality that once we reach “success” or once we have fulfilled our dreams, then that is when true happiness begins. However, it may take some time until you achieve your goal, and there’s always a chance that your path changes, so you set new goals, and the goal that you previously had no longer exists.
