We asked some of the most creative folks we know to open up to us about why they chose a creative career path. Check out their responses below.
Sergey Gordienko | Do What You Love Artist
For me, pursuing an artistic career was a very organic and natural choice. I was creating since I can remember, in large part due to the early influence that my mom, an artist herself, extended over me through her belief and support. My life has been the culmination of conscious decisions within a path that resonated for me and which I’ve always felt brought me closer to where I needed to be professionally as well as personally. I’ve made choices regarding work, the places of my residence, and the people I’m surrounded by in order to be aligned with that which I love. Read more>>
Max Harrison | Singer / The Wax Worms
We started making music for ourselves, and then in time we saw that we can make our hobby our career. Because when you naturally do your “thing” for fun anyway, it’s very easy to add the other components that make you a functioning artist. So the pursuit had already started after the first songs were written, and the rest just flowed organically. Read more>>
Jarod the Sixth | Musical Artist
Being a creative has always been something I loved doing since young. I grew up taking private piano lessons and drawing manga art to creating paper planes. It was never for the money aspect but for the love of expressing myself. I see it as my therapy a little. I used to work for a lot of good companies and jobs over the years while doing music and photography as a side hustle after I graduated from high school but It wasn’t until 2020 during Covid when I realized as I got older if I don’t jump and go all in, Read more>>

Ashley Verhasselt | Ash V Photography
I think I gravitate toward creative and artistic pathways because they allow me to experience life on a heightened level. When I was working professionally in musical theater, I always felt most alive in the rehearsal room. It was the most rewarding part of the process for me because I was workshopping and creating in the moment. There’s nothing more exhilarating, and I bring that intention to all my shoots. Each session is a unique energy exchange and I know my clients sense and feed off of my creative drive when I discover what is meaningful to them. Read more>>
Gabrielle “neptunemuse” Tola | Singer-Songwriter, Poet, Astrologer, and Creative Director
Pursuing an artistic career was second nature to me as I had grown up heavily influenced by music and was encouraged to act on my creativity since my childhood. Culture had a lot to do with it, having watched the pepsi musica show on tv, listening to the radio, and being obsessed with music videos. My mom’s favorite story to tell is when I was in kindergarten and she got called during work by my school principal because I was dancing on a table during lunch giving a belly dance rendition of la tortura by shakira, which I think describes me well to this day. Shei Veliz | Photographer & Content Creator
I believe that all humans are born with a creative side. We are art, therefore we create art. I have always loved to capture things as they are, if I see a beautiful sunset the first thing I do is take a picture of it (and then take a moment to admire it of course), but that picture right there, I will have it forever, I can look back at it and say “wow, that was such a gorgeous sunset”. Photography lets me do that, it lets me freeze a moment in time, forever. It’s like magic. Artists can make a difference in this world, they can make you feel something, they can make you happy, sad, excited, any emotion, and I think that is what I look for, to create an emotion, a reaction, by giving people something they can cherish forever. Karen E. Osborne | Fiction Writer of Suspense and Mysteries
I’ve wanted to write all my life. A busy career in higher education and then as an international consultant and speaker sidelined that dream. But it never left me. A voracious reader and lover of movies, I felt the pull to write with each book I read, each story that unfolded on the big screen. Storytelling is a powerful force. It helps us give testimony, inspire others to think differently, brings us together. I love being part of the writing community. I love being a writer. Read more>>
Jonnia Whyms | Crochet Fashion and Pattern Designer
I chose to pursue a creative career because as a young child I always loved craft work and being around my grandmother (Deceased) who was a Straw Vendor at our local Straw Market here in Nassau, Bahamas she was always creating straw bags and crocheted items, so the love of craft grew on me and I decided to start a small business and do what I love for a living.
