Meet Carmen Cantu | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Cantu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carmen, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity has always been my way of expressing, healing, and connecting with myself and with others. Whether it’s through music, beauty, or storytelling, it’s how I process life and share love. I didn’t just choose a creative career it’s who I am. It’s my purpose, and I live it every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is all about connection whether it’s a lyric that hits your soul or a bridal look that makes someone feel like a queen. I’ve been in the beauty game for over 15 years, doing hair and makeup for weddings, and now I’m also a songwriter and co-owner of a record label. I blend creativity with real-life vibes, and I think what sets me apart is that I put heart and soul into everything I do—and maybe a little glitter.

It definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve had to push through loss, setbacks, and the rollercoaster of being a creative entrepreneur. But I kept showing up, trusting my gut, and learning to laugh through the chaos (usually after a good cry and some cafecito).

What I want people to know is this: it’s never too late to follow your dreams or pivot into your purpose. My brand is all about authenticity, reinvention, and reminding women that they’re powerful, beautiful, and totally capable. Never stop and keep going. Just never give up..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit South Florida for a week, we’d keep it chill, soulful, and full of sunshine. I’m all about good food, beautiful views, and soaking up the energy of this place without needing to party hard.

Beach days would be a must—lots of time by the water, catching the breeze, maybe jumping into some live music at Margaritaville or just relaxing with our feet in the sand. I’m happiest near the ocean, and a good low-key pool day is always on the list too.

At night, Timber on Las Olas is a favorite especially on a Friday or Saturday. Amazing food .The vibe is elevated but not over-the-top, and they have an amazing DJ,
(DJ Ani) that sets the perfect mood. It’s one of those spots where you can dress up a little, feel cute, and still feel totally yourself.

We’d also explore Downtown Hollywood, which has such a fun, creative energy. We’d go on little adventures maybe some vintage shopping or people watching and catch sunset views from the rooftop (Sunset Roof Top) at Hollywood Beach, which is one of my favorite peaceful spots to take it all in.

For dinner, Olivia’s in Downtown Hollywood would be a must—great atmosphere, beautiful presentation, and it always feels like a little treat.

The whole week would be a mix of unwinding, laughing, vibing out to live music, and just enjoying the magic of South Florida. Simple, soulful, and full of heart that’s my kind of itinerary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh, absolutely. I’ve had some incredible people pour into me throughout my journey—my family, my closest friends, and the amazing women I’ve met in both the beauty and music worlds. I’ve been lucky to have mentors and supporters who believed in my talent even before I fully believed in myself. While I’ve worked hard and done a lot on my own, I’ve never truly been alone. I’m deeply grateful for the strong, supportive people around me and for the chance to collaborate with so many talented artists and creatives. And I have to shout out my business partner, Paula Cantu, who’s been by my side as we build our label, CAN2 Music.
