We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Seeds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I did this because I HAD to. There was something pulling me to this work ever since I “logged on” as a person. The need to express myself, and to play characters (especially those who are very different than my) helped me feel/create empathy and play and explore. It was addicting entertaining family members and friends. When I was four, I remember watching the “Sound of Music” on TV, and I wanted to be on the screen and acting with them. When I was 8, I played a Lawyer who was trying to shut down Noah’s Ark (It was a church play — I have no idea why it existed), but I brought the house down. The dialogue was pure satirical gold and I knew it was in my blood. From there, many plays followed all the way through college, and I finally found my way to Film & TV when I moved to New York City. I haven’t looked back since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is always coming from a place of need — something I need to say that I feel hasn’t been said, or is something I would love to play. As an Actor (my absolute favorite thing to do), I make sure to do the work before. To understand (& not judge) the character I’m playing. To do them justice and to give it my all. The Chubbuck technique was a perfect jumping off point: to find the overall goal, the goal of the scene, the inner object work (what can I bring from my real life), and what happened in the moments before. I come from a family of Engineers and Teachers, so I had to go for my dreams with no blueprint. I came to NYC with an air mattress, a lamp, card board box as a nightstand, and some clothes. That’s it. I had no connections, but I ravenously went for all the things I could. It wasn’t easy, but it was what I wanted. I learned that knowing who I was and that I had something to offer was paramount, and that I needed to always push myself, step-by-step. That thing’s won’t go the way you think they will, but to keep your eye on the prize.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
New York City is the best. There are so many spots and magical places I would take them. I LOVE art, museums, food, nightlife and entertainment — so this is THE place. Hidden gems, like Decibel Bar in the East Village, Fort Tryon Park uptown, the deliciously trashy Trailer-Park Lounge, wine/date nights a the MET, & Death & Co are a start. I love the Shakespeare Garden in central park too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my parents, my mentors, my Husband and those who continue to cast me, uplift my stories, and support me. I have a great group of artists who I collaborate with in NY and beyond. I also want to credit “The Artist’s Way” for truly giving me the push to go even farther than I imagined and push myself into spaces I originally didn’t even consider. To be a working actor, a SAG-AFTRA National Board Member, a person who has sold a show to Amazon (‘Riding the D with Dr. Seeds,’ now on Plex TV), a Television Academy member and all the other roles I’ve had, would not have been possible without my parents, my mentors, and the support of friends.
