We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Laurenti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my Favorite quotes is actually a song lyric “Just cus you feel it doesn’t mean it’s there. It comes from one of my favorite bands “Radiohead” the song “There There”.Music is not the easiest road to take for a career path. Whether id like to admit it or not it comes with a head full of doubt and obstacles. It can be mentally abusive at times, all the negative voices telling you to give up can be crippling. Hence comes this line “Just cus you feel it doesn’t mean it’s there”. Once I tell myself this I kind of chuckle for a bit, How can a simple phrase help me so much? Basically, it helps to dissolve all the expectations of where I’m going with my music career. It is a great hack to boost my confidence. I perform at all types of venues all over Florida. My music has a chill vibe so I don’t get applauded much, I’m usually the backdrop for a hotel bar or a tourist lunch destination. Sometimes when I’m headed home and feeling defeated from the gig like what’s the point I tell my self “Just cus you feel it, doesn’t mean it there” for me its an affirmation to love myself no matter what, and usually it’s right cus I go home and new fans actually followed me and messaged me how much they enjoyed the performance. It’s so easy to default to a state of dread when you have been so vulnerable for so long but this lyric has always told me to get out of my head and snap out of the negative.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been in a Coaxial Cable assembly business for 7 years, I have worked here full time and still managed to pull off my gigs and music releases. It makes me proud that I didn’t quit when things got difficult. A lot of my work was data entry and sales so it has a way of eating all your mental capacity for the day but I enjoyed it most days. Unfortunately, my job just relocated and asked me to do some long out-of-state training which I turned down. By the time you read this, I will have been let go. It’s frustrating but I see it as an opportunity to have a career doing what truly fills me. I know there are many challenges ahead of me but I’m willing to do what I have to. The biggest lesson I learned from this is it’s never too late to rethink your career. I want the world to know that someone is always listening and there are people out there who truly want the best for you and won’t take advantage of you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to a few open mics in West Palm beach. Maybe up to St. Augustine to go Kayaking with dolphins. I would have a few meals at Cholo Soy they have the best tacos. We would go hang out on the rooftop of the Hilton Downtown West Palm beach. Maybe dance like fools at Respectables and grab some coffee at Common Grounds Cafe.

We would for sure have a few jam sessions at the beach in Boynton. Stop at the recording studio. Go for a skate at the skatepark at Boynton beach Highschool. Take a train to the graffiti museum in Wynwood or the Dali museum In St Pete.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Big shout out to one of my best friends Patrick Wynne. We met at an open mic around 10 years ago and have been friends ever since. We talk at least once a week and encourage each other. He always pushes me to keep going and tells me I’m the whole package in his long island accent. He reminds me of all the hard work I’ve put into my music and shares new song ideas and techniques with me. His artist name is “Ethafulm”.

Another big shout-out is to my sister Leah, She has made it on a few episodes of American Idol and has a beautiful voice.
She is always helping me with the booking side of things and pushing me along making sure I know my worth as a brother and a musician.

I guess another shout-out would be anyone who has ever booked me for a gig In West Palm Beach and believed in my ability to entertain at their establishment. I have played so many places in so many towns and I am looking forward to performing in new areas in the future.
